Easy to wear around your neck or on your belt. Take a closer look.

An ear-clip and an exclusive eye/sunglasses clip come with the scala-500. Take a closer look.
Equipped with the WindGuard solution, the scala-500 overcomes wind interference significantly better than does any other Bluetooth headset on the market. Whether you're walking the sidewalks of a busy city, or biking or hiking on a windy day, you will appreciate this addition.

No WindGuard protection
WindGuard and the scala-500

At a hair more than half an ounce, the sleek and stylish scala-500 is one of the smallest and lightest devices available, but it still offers up to nine hours of talk time. An integrated speaker booster provides substantially higher volume capacity than is common with other headsets. Plus, echo-canceling technology alleviates those annoying voice feedback loops that are common with lesser headsets. An exchangeable ear-loop and eye/sunglasses attachment lets you place the headset where it's most convenient, while handy controls on the device allow you to voice dial, as well as to answer, mute, reject, and transfer calls. A charging cradle ships with the scala-500, offering fast recharging of the headset's internal battery. A carry sleeve is included as well, letting you carry the scala-500 on your belt or around your neck. And last but not least, the scala-500 is Bluetooth 1.2 compliant.

What's in the Box
scala-500 headset, carry sleeve, VersaClip ear/eyeglasses clip, charging cradle, carry lanyard, AC adapter, software, and user's manual.

Customer Reviews

5 stars great bluetooth
I looked at all the bluetooth devices before making this purchase. My wife and I have different needs, so I had to take a lot into consideration. I use mine a lot and my wife uses hers just when she's driving. Also, I have big ears and my wife has little ears. My wife wears glasses and I have hearing damage so I had to consider those factors too. I wasn't too concerned about price because most of the devices are around $50.
After considering all the factors I went with a Plantronics 510 for myself and the Scala 500 for my wife. Both were excellent choices. The Scala 500 is light and small and has a neat little gadget for hooking it to your glasses. It's easy to install and use. The PLT 510 is completely different. It's bulk sits around your ear, so the weight goes around your ear instead of out to the side so it is comfortable to wear for long periods of time and does not have that floppy feel. The Scala has more of a floppy feel to it because the weight is beside your ear, but my wife doesn't mind that since she only wears it when driving. When the glasses-attachment is used it doesn't flop around at all; it holds firmly to the glasses. But like I said, I have big ears so that is probably why it flops around when I wear it. That little ear-loop is made for a small ear I guess. The shape of the PLT is better for me.
The PLT 510 has an ear bud that goes in your ear which is great for me since I am half deaf and needed something that was plenty loud. The volume goes way up on the thing so I can hear just fine even when I'm driving. The Scala 500 sits outside your ear and doesn't quite get as loud as the PLT. I'm sure it is loud enough for people who don't have hearing damage. My wife can hear just fine with it.
Battery life and charging time is about the same with both. I can talk for hours before it starts to run down, and charging time is less than an hour.
I'm glad I did the research before making the purchase. I got the right bluetooth for each of us. I recommend both, but do the research and make sure you know what you need first.

4 stars This is one you need to try
With bluetooth headsets, there is much to be said about individual comfort and I have found this Cardo to be very comfortable for me. It functions very well also.

4 stars Good Headset
I purchased the Scala 500 Bluetooth Headset after looking at other recommendations. I've never owned one before so I'm not familiar with other designs. This headset does really well in windy situations and is very easy to use. It stays active for a long time, is easy to setup, smallish, and functional. Not too many features to confuse a novice and not too little to be ineffectual. I would definitely recommend this product.

3 stars not so great
I got this headset to replace a Plantronics Explorer 330 Easy-To-Use Bluetooth® Headset for all Bluetooth Enabled Phones that I washed(which was fantastic btw). Over all the functioning is fine. The wind control does not really work but the sound is generally clear and the battery life is good. However, the earpiece is very uncomfortable it is loose and feels like it is going to fall off. Its ok for short-term use but not something you can really wear for any length of time for example when you are not actually on the phone. I am currently looking into other options because I do not use this headset. It is more convenient to not use a headset at all than to use this one.

2 stars You Can Do Better Than This
I got this headset about 6 months ago. It worked fairly well for the first four months, although the volume control was somewhat erratic -- nothing that I couldn't live with. However, in the past two months the bluetooth connection drops out unpredictably even though the phone is no more than three feet away at all times. I know that it's not the phone (LG enV) since the connection between it and my Motorola stereo headset never drops.

Aside from that (which is a deal breaker in my book: if I had known that this would happen, I never would have bought this headset), the earpiece is fairly flimsy. I haven't broken it, but I've come close several times. I also noticed that the price on this headset has gone way up since I bought it at $29.99. Why? -- I couldn't tell you. But it's not worth it -- for $43, you can do a whole lot better.
