Avg Customer Rating:
Product Description: Amazon Best of the Month, May 2008: Stephenie Meyer, creator of the phenomenal teen-vamp Twilight series, takes paranormal romance into alien territory in her first adult novel. Those wary of sci-fi or teen angst will be pleasantly surprised by this mature and imaginative thriller, propelled by equal parts action and emotion. A species of altruistic parasites has peacefully assumed control of the minds and bodies of most humans, but feisty Melanie Stryder won't surrender her mind to the alien soul called Wanderer. Overwhelmed by Melanie's memories of fellow resistor Jared, Wanderer yields to her body's longing and sets off into the desert to find him. Likely the first love triangle involving just two bodies, it's unabashedly romantic, and the characters (human and alien) genuinely endearing. Readers intrigued by this familiar-yet-alien world will gleefully note that the story's end leaves the door open for a sequel--or another series. --Mari Malcolm

Couldn't Put it down!
From the time this book arrived at my door I managed 3 hours sleep and the rest of the time spent reading. Stephenie Meyer has again graced us with a wonderful story. I'm anxiously waiting for #4 in her Twilight series! I hate for her books to end!

Stephenie Meyer does it again
Stephenie Meyer once said that she thinks of herself as a storyteller rather than a writer. For any fan of the Twilight series, it's obvious that Stephenie is a great storyteller with the ability to draw the reader into the story. The Host is another great example of her talent. I found myself staying up reading until all hours of the night just to find out what was going to happen next. It's very easy to become emotionally invested in Stephenie's books, and The Host is no different.

Loved it!
I abolutely LOVED it! Just finished it last night. It took me about 50 pages to get into it...but once I did, I was HOOKED! It's the perfect combination of character development along with a romantic twist. I usually can't stand Science Fiction--but I just loved The Host. I couldn't do anything else--other than turn those pages. I highly recommend the Host--you'll have more fun with this book than you have had in a long time! I think Stephenie Meyer is a fabulous author! The Host does not disappoint! Hope there is a sequel!

The best read of the year!
What can I say about this? It was wonderful. I am not a fan of Sci-fi and really picked it up because I enjoy Stephenie Meyer's writing (but though I liked her first books I would not be so loyal as to write what I didn't truly think and feel, so while this comes from a "zombie-minded" pathetic Twilight Twi-hard and TM, I can put that aside for a fair evaluation). Truthfully, it took me a day to crack it. After that I could not put it down.
As with her previous stories, which were not traditional vampire stories, The Host is not really a traditional Sci-fi or a traditional romance, though it's been touted to be that as well. Oh, the aliens take over the world and all that and it has that element of darkness and there is love that is found, but within the story there is more. It's a story about love and what it means to truly be human, both the good and bad of humanity, mostly the good. It's about hope and surviving against all odds. It's about changing and growing and learning.
I thought it was lovely. Wanderer was wonderful and I would love to be that compassionate and forgiving, that gentle. Jeb was a crusty character that you can't help but like and Ian grows on you until he might even rival Edward (Team Edward, I am one of you. Please, don't throw pieces of rotten fruit at me for speaking so scandalously ;o))
In short, I loved it. I have started it for the second time (there is so much to absorb) and would recommend it to anyone (and have). It is defifnitely a must read and possibly one of the best books of the year! Job well done, Stephenie! Keep up the awesome work and I look forward to hearing more from Wanderer.

Great Read!
I gave The Host only four stars because there were parts(mostly in the beginning) that didn't make sense to me, even after re-reading them. Other than that, the story was great. Stephenie Meyer did it again with this book, creating another fantastic set of characters who capture your attention and eventually your heart.
I am finished reading the book, and now I want more. I am having the same dilemma I had after I finished the Twilight Saga; there is nothing else I want to read but more of The Host. Strange how that happens, huh?
This is a definite must-read.
