Product Description: For many listeners, Little Voice will be their first exposure to this soulful singer/songwriter, but it's actually Sara Bareilles' second record. Her first, the self-released Careful Confessions, led to a deal with Epic. Since then, Bareilles has opened for Marc Broussard and Maroon 5. She's also become a bonafide soundtrack queen with tracks featured in female-centric films Girl Play, Loving Annabelle, and Monster-in-Law. As with her out-of-print debut, the UCLA grad wrote every song on her first major label recording (Little Voice features re-worked versions of several demo numbers). Like the portrait on the back of the CD--Bareilles in strappy black dress and lace-free high-tops--the piano-playing chanteuse combines the sweet with the scruffy. While her jazzy pop melodies are radio-ready, her relationship-oriented lyrics can be unexpectedly salty ("Bottle Up" and "Come Round Soon" wouldn't pass FCC muster). A little profanity here and there, however, doesn't indicate tough-girl attitude--Amy Winehouse can rest easy--so much as a desire to express herself freely. As Bareilles explains in "Love Song," "I'm trying to let you hear me as I am." (Not surprisingly, her degree is in communications.) Fans of Sarah McLachlan and Alicia Keyes will find much to like here. --Kathleen C. Fennessy

2 stars Nothing Outstanding
I, like I'm sure many others did, bought this CD for "Lovesong" hoping the rest of it would be as interesting. Unfortunatly it fell well short for me. I just bought this CD and I suppose there are a few other songs worth listening to more than once, but it just isn't enough to make me not resell it tomorrow.

4 stars Sara Bareilles
I haven't given it the chance it needs by listening to the whole CD in one sitting, but what I have listened to I have liked. She is a breath of fresh air and has a great style.

4 stars Great Buy
Having known very little about Sara Bareilles before making this purchase, I have nothing but high praise for this album. Its very well-written and she has a real soulful voice. I highly recommend this for anyone looking for a fresh new sound.

5 stars I love this cd!
As soon as I heard the song 'Love Song', I had to find out who sang it, & buy her cd. Sarah Bareilles is an amazing talent, & the cd is one of the best I've ever found. I love finding true 'artists' - in addition to her unique voice, she writes her own music & plays the piano. The cd is a great mix of fun songs & bluesy sad songs. My favorite is still 'Love Song', but I also love 'Fairy Tales', & honestly, I love the rest of the songs too.
I can't wait to see her as the opening act with Maroon 5 & Counting Crows in Jones Beach in July!

1 stars She is lucky to have a hit.
Love song is stupid. It will be critiqued 5 years from now on vh-1 by mediocre comedians. It is so pathetic.
