Product Description: In 1959, RCA Nashville producer-guitarist Chet Atkins brought Jimmie Driftwood's Tennessee Stud to Eddy Arnold and gave 'The Tennessee Plowboy' his first major hit in three years. That success, scored in the wake of the Kingston Trio's Tom Dooley, prompted the Atkins-Arnold team to prepare an album of folk-based saga songs, 'Thereby Hangs A Tale.' In 1963, a second 'folk' album, this with an exclusively Western theme, reprised Arnold's 1955 hit, Cattle Call. This 25-song collection brings together all the 1959-1963 'folk & Western' recordings of country's Crosby, souvenirs of a time when saga songs became hit records.

Good Stuff
I bought this CD for the "There by Hangs a Tale" album because my LP is no longer playable. It also comes with Cattle Call, but I only like 2 of the songs on that album. If you like the smooth voice of Eddie Arnold and you like old country folks songs, you can't wrong buying this CD.

A man for all seasons
A man that kept the WESTERN in Country and Western and helped retain the traditional WESTERN music and added a few songs that blended right in with WESTERN music! A GREAT classic in its own right! Don't miss this CD!!!!!!

There by hangs a tale
This is a good down to earth country western at it's best ,if you like the good old western music . It may not be for the younger, but any growing up in the 50's this is one of the best that Eddy Arnold Recorded. There are other top recordings that topped the charts in early 50's that might be checked out.

great sing-a-long
Love it! in this day of changing music there is nothing better than revisiting the classic cowboy tunes. Great sing-a-long.

Best renditions of American Western standards you'll find!
A singer posessing both genuine, personable warmth and solid technical vocal abilities; recorded in his vocal prime performing American western standards both authentic and contemporary with obvious enthusiasm; set to musically effective, rich instrumental backing largely based on acoustic guitar; recorded live in the studio in glorious true stereo by RCA Living Stereo era recording talent (Bill Porter, Roy Orbison's engineer on many of that singers' astounding sounding hits); transferred intelligently to CD without being ruined with "improvements" by the good quality Bear Family engineers. Both of Eddy's classic Western albums. Classic Western folk Americana. Fine vocals. Fine backing. Better sound acoustically than most modern pop records. This all adds up to one wonderful CD! A keeper, and it only grows on you as time goes by. If you are at all curious or interested in folk music, get it. Good listening, folks.
