Product Description: As the frontman for the Mavericks and a member of Los Super Seven, Raul Malo has applied his Orbison-like delivery to an eclectic array of material. On this, his latest solo effort, the warbler enlists veteran producer Peter Asher to focus on romantic balladry, as string-laden arrangements surround Malo's tremulous voice on the opening title track (a '70s hit for songwriter J.D. Souther) and the soaring "Feels Like Home" (reprised as the closer in a duet with Martina McBride). The song selection highlights Malo's vocal range, as he finds the bittersweet essence in a slowed-down rendition of the Everly Brothers' "So Sad," a dramatic reading of the Bee Gees' "Run to Me," and a lilting take on Ron Sexsmith's "Secret Heart." He even tackles Etta James's signature tune, "At Last," its jazzy, smoky sophistication punctuated by a trumpet solo. The cover of Willie Nelson's "Angel Flying Too Close to the Ground" provides the album's main link to country, but even here the bedrock organ and soul choir sound closer to the church than the roadhouse. The stellar selection provides a superb showcase for Malo's shimmering voice. --Don McLeese

Inspiring Voice
The thing about music is it's all very subjective. Some people like his other recordings better, but I think this is his all time best! He's chosen music for the first time, in my opinion, that truly demonstrates the range and giftedness of his voice. Run To Me, Feels Like Home, At Last, and Secret Heart are truly outstanding. He gives Josh Groban and Andrea Bocceli a run for their money with this CD and I truly hope Raul's next effort will be along the same lines. This is a relax and unwind CD that has a lot of emotional appeal. If you're as evolved as a rock, you probably won't enjoy it; if you're sentimental and appreciate an emotional outlet, this is for you.

Another major screw-up
What a mess in trying to get this item delivered. Went to wrong address, but finally received it. Again, Amazon needs to revise its delivery addresses. Not happy at all, plus extra dollars spent to have it delivered before Christmas, ONLY to have it go to wrong address!!!!!!!!

Needs a new producer
So we all really love Raul Malo , he has a soulful evocative voice in a world of banality. But how many of us are getting tired of it being somewhat wasted, or perhaps underused? I was hoping that a solo album wouldn't ( particularly after all this time) sound like the Mavericks or Roy Orbson, with the same guitar licks and reverb. But it's here. This guy desperately needs a new producer. The voice is the same , the arrangements are the same, the instruments are the same. FRUSTRATING ! Raul Malo should have gone top 40 long ago. This man has so much talent, what a shame not to have an 'Amazing" solo album, not just a Maverickless, Maverick album. Definite a producer problem, or an artist that thinks he is a producer. The Guitar and drums get tired after so many albums, how about some real Orchestration to back up the amazing voice??? I like the album a lot but will not buy another as Raul Malo or The Mavericks.

Raul sings his heart out!
This is the first Raul Malo without the Mavericks that I purchased- it is simply wonderful. I play the heck out of it- it is in the CD player of the car and I listen to it daily. Great arrangements- just love it!

Disappointed with The Path
Being at a Mavericks concert was always Wonderful.Energy,Soul and Raw Emotion.Plus the break where Raul would perform acoustically would give you goose bumps. That man(Raul) plus his voice equaled GREATNESS!!But now Raul has gone from being a talented writer/singer/performer to one of the many who try but Fail to add life to already recorded song. With The Mavericks, either in concert or on a CD,Raul could really do justice with his own version. But for some unknown reason, his new venture is lacking feeling.Other than a couple songs. Most are just plain vanilla. And Thats NOT GOOD!!! Raul,Why do you think you sold 300,000 copies of Trampoline in the UK alone? Why did people stand up and DANCE at the concert at Royal Albert Hall? Because of you and The Mavericks.Seeing Jerry Dale dance on stage was a Plus!!I truly believe that if you recorded the same songs with The Mavericks as your band and had Kenny Greenberg produce it,Then you would have had a winner. Please,STOP the EGO and get back to making Great Music!!!Once you Taste a Nice Steak(The Mavericks),its hard to swallow your new venture and your new band(hamburger)
