Customer Reviews
Stereotypical HP Customer Support
The scanner is not working on ours so we attempted to contact HP customer support...
"Hi, I need help figuring out why my Color Laserjet 2840 won't scan. I'm trying to scan a document in so I can fax it."
Okay, what is your serial number
"xxx-xxxx-xx"
I'm sorry, that device is out of warranty.
"How long is the warranty?"
One year.
"But I just bought it two-months ago."
Well, in that case you probably bought it used...
"No, I bought it from Office Max"
I have never heard of them, they probably sell used items.
"No, they are one of the largest office supply companies in the United States."
Well, in that case, I need you to send us a copy of your proof of purchase
"Okay, how?"
You can fax it to us.
"We use Efax and have to scan something to fax it, as you are aware, my scanner is broken which is why I am calling you"
Okay, well do you have e-mail?
"Yes."
Please scan the proof of purchase and send it to us at....
"Wait, what do you want me to scan it with?"
Circles ensue...

Great Muiltifunction printer
This Hp printer is great for an AIO device. We have about 5 in my company and they are very useful.

It Works
I just got this printer today. I don't use a network so I don't know anything about some of the issues some people have stated. I plugged it into my MAC it recognized it and I printed my first document seconds later.
No software needed.
The copier works well. I have not tried the scanner. Don't print with this thing during a meeting it it loud! Works great for my needs. Would have given it a 5 if it was not so loud.

NEVER another HP Product!
During the honeymoon, My HP2840 all-in-one was wonderful. All the things it can do, and such high quality! So impressive! I only used the color laser periodically, and not heavily, doing all my B&W stuff on an old 6p workhorse, much quicker, and at a much lower price per copy. (Back when HP cared about the products they put out)
Before long, my HP 2840 made one of those scary, grinding noises that so many others report, and *POOF* would only print on the right 1/4 of the page. (The rest of the page was blank.)
WHILE UNDER WARRANTY, HP could not have been better. Once the fuser went bad, and *POOF* a free one appeared in my mailbox in a few days flat. On the latter incident, HP sent a tech to my home, he worked for THREE DAYS to get this puppy purring again, and the honeymoon went on again.
A few months later, and the same exact incident happened, except this time, two weeks out of warranty. HP no longer knew that I was a customer, Phone help was $25., and they could/would not recommend a tech to fix it.
For $900.00, I purchased a Foot and a half by foot and a half by two foot 135 lb. boat anchor, that no one can seem to fix, (Or they need half the new price of the printer to do it.)
So... Let's review: for $900.00, my cost per copy is about $3.00.
The printer no longer prints anything.
My desk is occupied by a 135lbs foot and a half square worthless
piece of junk, whose total capabilities, at this point is SENDING
faxes (Can't receive - because it can't print.) Scanning, (things
that you do not need to print, of course...
Oh... and it does still Read my camera card.
The most useless technology investment I have EVER met. -
EVEN worse than my two HP laptops - One won't play CD's and the other has a high pitched whine when you connect out of the sound card. (I'm a disk Jockey - this is what I use the laptops for)
I'm absolutely convinced that HP stands for HORRIBLE PRODUCT, and I have no use for HP whatsoever at this point!

Good print quality, BAD drivers and software, expensive to own
After a year of owning this printer we finally had to switch it out for a cheaper Brother with more features and functioning software. This All in one prints really well after you manage to configure it. The scanning software still doesnt work on the networtk with Vista. Duplexing is limited. No wifi. The toner and drums are expensive. If you have XP and are connected directly to it, it works really well, if not, its a gamble.
