Customer Reviews

5 stars Great All In One for the Price
This was the second one of these we bought. We are trying to scan in all of our business documents from the last 8 years. If you try to feed too many sheets at a time, it will jam but I consider this more of a user error than a machine error. We do use the other features and everything seems to work flawlessly. For the price, this does a great job and you get more bang for your buck when it comes to the ink cartridges. When you compare what you pay for HP Cartridges and how many pages you can print to what you pay for these cartridges and how many pages you can print, you get more pages for less money.

5 stars Does It All and Does It Well
This a solid 4-in-one unit with automatic-document feeding. Everything was set up and working in about 15 minutes using the short-cut installation guide.

FAX - I didn't have the problems in fax set up described in other reviews with a non-dedicated fax line. Everything worked between the answering machine and the fax after choosing Telephone Priority in the settings. You can load and send multiple-page faxes automatically using the document feeder or the glass surface, which is very convenient.

PRINTER - Print quality is good to very good for documents and photos. Other reviews have mentioned how much ink the printer uses and I did notice the first few items I printed had a very dark text. But there are three setting for print quality (Standard, High, and Fast) that you can use to control the ink. Fast is noticeably lighter but I still find it good enough for basic text and copies.

COPIER - Copy quality is very good and on Standard mode it was hard to tell some from the originals. Copies aren't on a par with the self-service copiers at Kinko's or Staples, but they are close enough for everyday use.

SCANNER - Put a item on the glass surface, press Scan on the keyboard panel and the software automatically launches on your PC. Very easy with intuitive software for simple scan procedures and there is also the option for advanced editing if needed. Scan results were fine.

I was looking for a basic all-in-one machine for home use with good to very good results in all functions. This does the job and it would be hard to expect much more at this price.

4 stars it works ok
It is ok for the money, the colors are kinda washed out, and the data cable is in the most akward and hard to find location. other then that it works fine.

5 stars Great features at a great price
I am so glad I chose the Canon PIXMA MX310. I had been shopping around for some time looking for a printer/scanner/copier combo device with an ADF (automatic document feeder)for scanning multiple pages at once. The scanner's quality is good and the print speed is high, plus it was easy to set up. This is a great value for the price.

1 stars Hmmm...Not impressed so far...
Sounded good, before I tried it myself. First of all, the "Quick Start" guide is 119 pages long. That ought to tell you something right there--Isn't a "Quick Start" guide usually 1 or 2 pages long? I'm not finding this to be an even remotely intuitive device. I my humble opinion, this is the most complicated multi-function unit I have ever encountered. The only thing I can get it to do easily is print. The Automatic Doc Feeder works...sometimes...for reasons which escape me. I tried to get it to feed a doc for scanning, it wouldn't do it. However, it DID feed a doc for faxing.

With regard to fax/phone/ans device coordination, not being able to turn off the ringer and not being able to stop the thing from interrupting incoming messages with fax beeping is really annoying. It made so much noise during recorded messages, I could hardly hear what was being said. I finally created a bypass phone line that I can just unplug when not in use. But I've never had this problem with any other fax machine. With regard to the inability to turn off the ringer, apparently this is not a setting that you can change. You can only make the ringer loud or normal. You can't turn it off.

When I tried clicking on "Help" for the multitudinous questions I had for how in the world to run this thing, an error message came up indicating there is no help for this model. (Go figure...)

I'm concerned about the comments about it being an ink hog. But I haven't had it long enough to evaluate that, and if things continue as they have been, I probably won't have it long enough to know.

My last HP died prematurely. However, out of the box, it was a breeze compared to this machine. I'm disappointed. The price is great. But I guess you get what you pay for, as the saying goes...

This reminds me of the 70's and early 80's when you had to be a rocket scientist to run a computer. I guess I'm not one of those.
