NOT!!! User friendly at all
I bought this label maker so that I can organize my office, home and stable & tack room. It is "not"user friendly at all and that is all I can say is that I have become so frustrated getting it to work as it says that it does that I am giving it away and looking for a "NEW" one and what a "BIG" waste of money!!!

Tech Must Have!
I've used this labeler for over 2 years. It's GREAT!. I bought a second one for a seprate location so I always have one handy. If you read the manual you can find how not to waste tape when printing multiple labels. You can print any kind of label for wiring, panels, or just about anything else. Go to Brothermall.com and get the flexable ID tapes for cables. If you shop around you can see how expensive labeling is so the price for the tapes is as reasonable as any other. You may want to get something cheaper for personal use but this is the best for professional quality installation. I got a Platt 507 case and customized it for carrying the labeler, 9 tape cartridges, and spare batteries. It gets great milage from the batteries too. Add some flat point tweezers to help in applying the labels so they're always straight. I recommend this labeler to all the technicians I work with and have complete faith in it. On occasions the cutter can use some cleaning with a cotton swab and alcohol to avoid a cutter error. You should press the cutter in a delibrate but not over firm motion when cutting the tape and you'll have no problems. I can't say enough positives about using this labeler.

Merely OK
I bought this labeler because it has a number pad and I need to make labels with alot of numbers. I didn't realize the number pad would be so hard to reach. This thing is huge. Nine inches tall. It's hard to reach all of the buttons with out shifting your hands. This makes typing slow. The buttons have a very mushy feel. The code button is in the wrong spot. The letters on the buttons are white and the symbols next to the letters are yellow. This makes the letters hard to distinguish. The letters aren't in a qwerty format. So you'll have to learn the letter placement if you plan on using it alot. I can only recommend buying this if you'll be typing nothing but numbers.

problems from the get go
yes, this unit wastes a lot of tape about 3/4 of an inch for each label so be prepared to buy lots of extra cartridges just as brother planned. my old brother unit did not intentionally waste tape so this is a new feature. Also, my unit which is three days old keeps throwing a cutter error which wastes even more tape about every third label.
