Customer Reviews
InstaJack
The GE Instajack worked perfectly as a remote location for telephone service where I could not run a regular telephone extension plug.

Does not work with Direct TV !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I bought this thing because I needed a jack in my bedroom for Direct TV. it DOES NOT work with Direct TV!!! the package says it does but it does not.
Its easier and cheaper to run wire and drill a hole or two if needed rather than fuss with this thing.
Dont be fooled by this thing. IT DOES NOT WORK WITH DIRECT TV.

GE Model TL96595 Instajack for Phones
We recently canceled our local telephone service, which was around $45 monthly. The only features we had was Caller ID and no long distance service, and we use our cell service for long distance. Our ISP recently offered "LightPhone" to its high-speed Internet subscribers. This created a problem because there was not a telephone jack in our computer room. And since we have cordless 2.4GHZ Digital spread-spectrum telephones, the Instajack solved the problem. Simply by installing a two-line splitter in the telephone port of the LinkSys phone adapter, I was able to plug in the extension unit near our computer, and installed the base unit downstairs in the family room. Actually, we solved two problems. Problem #1 was no jack in the computer room upstairs. Problem solved. Problem #2 is that our digital satellite TV downstairs in the family room needs to be connected to a telephone line, so that's why we installed the Instajack base unit near the television set in the family room. Otherwise, DishNetwork would have charged us a monthly programming fee had the TV not been connected to a telephone line. No static on the telephone line, just crisp, clear digital wireless telephone service. We're happy because our land-line telephone service was costing around $46 per month, with no long distance, and no features other than Caller ID. Now our telephone service is full featured, i.e., long distance service to the U.S., Canada, and Puerto Rico. Also, Caller ID, Voice Mail, speed dial, etc., etc., all for only $14.95 monthly.
Without the GE TL96595 InstaJack, all this would not have been possible.
I would recommend the InstaJack to anyone who needs a telephone jack. Why get ripped off by the telephone company? You can do it yourself with no problem. I'm a happy camper!

Vertical mount ONLY!
I had intermittent connection problem at first when the transmitter unit was sitting level on a power strip. However, as soon as I plugged the transmitter vertically to the wall, the connection became stable. I figure this is due to when the unit is mounted vertically, the radio wave covers most of the floor. However, if it sits level, then the radio wave actually goes into the ceiling and the floor. After all, many antennas out there are directional!

Maybe I got a bad one but......
Just bought this product today for pure phone use. I plugged the main unit in an outlet and ran the phone cord. I then put the extension unit in another room and plugged in the phone. It worked perfectly! About 30 minutes later I went to use the phone and there was no dial tone. I did the reset, etc. The troubleshooting guide said that this could be caused by the phones being to far from each other. To test this I moved the extension unit to an outlet very close to the main unit. At first it worked. But then again after a few minutes no dial tome again. Both units have a solid red light. Right now its packed back up and will be returned to Target tomorrow. If you buy it I hope your luck is better than mine.
