Product Description: No one will be able to say for sure whether Lullaby Renditions of the Beatles will successfully "glide your little one across the universe, through an octopus's garden, and send them into a slumberland of strawberry fields," as it says it will on the back on the disc, but one thing it won't do is bonk you over the head with the sub-par production you might expect from a novelty disc. The latest CD in the series that has provided hipster parents with wordless, infant-friendly versions of Led Zeppelin, U2, Metallica, and many others takes a turn for the unapologetically melodic here, having its way with classics from "Here Comes the Sun" to "Hey Jude." The result is, as ever, powder-puffy yet inarguably palatable, whether you're the one swaddled in the crib or the one staring down into it waiting for the sandman to arrive. "Michelle" was a dozy song to begin with; here it's a doorway to a peaceful drift-off that, with any luck, will last long enough get the laundry done. --Tammy La Gorce

Customer Reviews

3 stars Just average lullaby cd
Nice change for parents from the usual lullaby cd's, but not a top pick for putting baby to bed.

3 stars Lullabies across the Universe
At first,"Rockabye Baby: Lullaby Renditions of the Beatles" sounds like a cheesy concept album. In its own campy way, it works. The Beatles, in their psychedelic period, wrote kid-friendly songs like "Here comes the sun","Strawberry fields","Yellow Submarine" and the cosmic lullaby/meditation "Across the universe." Thankfully, these songs are on the album, albeit in the form of mellotron and glockenspiel.

The Beatles kids' version is superior to the other compilations highlighting Metallica and Nirvana, simply because of the nature of the Fab Four's material. True, it's dumbed-down and slowed-down,but better than having to explain Kurt Cobain's life to the young 'uns or telling them the lyrics to Metallic'a "Anesthesia: Pulling Teeth."

There are some odd omissions, such as "Lucy in the sky with diamonds","Octopus' Garden","Mr. Kite" and "Penny Lane." More kid-friendly songs from the Liverpool quartet. Luckily, they omit "Sexy Sadie","Why don't we do it in the road?" and "Eleanor Rigby."

Still, this is a somewhat New Agey,dumbed-down version of the Beatles. Why not introduce kids to the originals instead? I grew up listening to the Beatles... so why not cross Abbey Road?

5 stars Phenomenal- a lullaby you can enjoy too!!!
I love this one and the Pink Floyd one- its basically some of the best and most melodic songs on a xyhlaphone but it is beautiful to listen to and you find yourself naturally singing along to your baby- mine loves the both of them. We also have the Zeppelin one, but I think it works best with bands that wrote beautiful songs/melodies. Absolute recommendation for lullaby music- I can't stand most of the other stuff and i don't think my baby can either.

5 stars Shipped quickly!
A friend of mine and his wife had a baby just days after Christmas, and this was the perfect gift. They shipped it quickly, and now their baby has something that he loves to fall asleep to!

5 stars Great kid's music that won't annoy adults!
These Rockabye cds are great. We have about 6 of them. We buy the one's that are of the bands we like. That way the kids listen to them before bed and we don't mind because we are singing the words in our heads to our favorite songs. Who ever created these is ingenious. No words and the music is changed just enough to make it sound kid friendly yet is so true to the original songs that you can't help humming along. Not too mention when a song comes on some where else I find my oldest humming along. It is so cool. I recommend all of these cds. Buy your favorite band, the kids will love it.
