4 stars Its a good album, but unclear about band's motives
I got this album like several many can relate, for that one good radio hit! It has it on here "Keeping Me Alive". As for the other songs, hit or miss. The band's lyrics unlike sanctus real or kutless doesn't sound quite so much christian but more like pop. Which isn't a bad thing, but it should be listed as a pop/rock not christian album. It seems like after hearing this band it makes me think that any band can have one sort-of christian song on it and it gets labeled as a christian album. Myspace girl is a cool other song though. It does warn about the dangers of our youth getting caught up in online dating relationships. I feel comfortable listening to this album but I fear those that aren't Christians couldn't tell I was listening to a Christian group. Its not a bad album. I still like it quite a bit, but if you're looking for a group that has more solid Christ Centered emphasis lyrics, I'd recommend not picking up this one. I have heard a brief bio of Josh, the main singer of the band on Klove and he seems like he is a christian, but if so, he should help the group put more of an emphasis on their faith.

4 stars Solid album
There are a lot of good songs on this album. Very mainstream and listenable. If you like any of their old stuff this is about the same.

1 stars 2nd Album REAL Disappointment
As a street team member and real lover of this bands first album, I counted the days until the new release and then bam, my heart was broken. The title track is the only song worth listening to. Never going back to ok is the only song worthy of the bands creative lyrics and sound. The rest of the album is the usual we have to sound like everyone else, CCM or bust! It is so terrible that all the new Alternative Christian Bands and Worship albums all sound the same, like something that fell out of Third Day's washing machine!
I tried desperately to listen to the cd one more time but couldn't make it through. I just have to hope they get the conformity out of their system and survive to make a third album. If it isn't good then it's over. Such a shame because their first release was the first cd ever that I actually love every single song. I guess that is to hard to top.

3 stars This is more than OK....
I first heard the single "Beautiful Love" back in 2005, and then I was hooked on this band. The Afters are a great Alternative rock band. When I then heard the new single "Tonight" I thought ....this is awesome, I must have the new album. And so I did. The new album is more than OK. It's really good. Besides from the "Tonight" song I really like "Keeping Me Alive" and "Myspace Girl". So my advice to you, are..get the album its great. I'll give it a 3,5 of a total 5. //mikehell74

4 stars More than OK - 4 1/2 stars
Finally, after three years and squeezing as much success as they could from their first album, I Wish We All Could Win, Texas rockers, The Afters are back. And their sophomore effort entitled Never Going Back to OK, was worth quite the wait.
The band gained much success with their first album, which made it hard to top it, but with Never..., they've outdone themselves. When I first listened to the new record, I didn't think much of it. It wasn't until I kept getting the catchy tune of the title track, "Never Going Back to OK", stuck in my head that I gave it a good listen. The Afters have kept their signature sound and passion for God intact, although here they have risen to a higher level of sound and quality.

Tracks like "Ocean Wide", "Tonight", and "Beautiful Words" will fancy fans of their first album. While on the title track and the song "Myspace Girl" the band turns up the beat creating foot tapping hits. It's too bad that it couldn't be warmer weather when this album released, it's set to be a "roll the windows down" rocker. The songs "We Are the Sound" and "Forty- Two" have a Switchfoot rock type of feel, but then the band slows down on passionate tracks "Summer Again" and "One Moment Away".

Singer Joshua Havens belts out clear, moving vocals that are accurately spiritual. On "Keeping Me Alive", Havens describes a deeper love of Jesus, telling us to be ourselves through Christ. On the cut, "Falling Into Place", the lyrics point out a rightness of belonging and how Christ fills our personal empty voids.

Even though it's been a long time since we've heard from these guys, Never Going Back to Ok is such a remarkable album. The Afters have honestly put together some beautiful tracks and soulful recordings as well as having grown in maturity as a group. Musically, lyrically, and spiritually this album hits all the marks, creating a standard for all future artists and listeners. The Afters are set to sprout more success with this release as they ascend into a higher level of respect among their peers and fans.
