Product Description: A teen pop star whose fleeting fame was usurped by that of Donnie Osmond, Keith Green--former runaway and rock & roll bad boy--went from rabble-rouser to born-again Christian in the aftermath. By the mid-'70s he and his wife, songwriter Melody Green, dedicated their full lives and musical abilities to their faith, forming the still active Last Days Ministry, in which the music played a central focus. Tragically, Green died in a 1982 plane crash and his short but prolific career thus became of greater poignancy to the evangelical Christian community left in the wake of his passing. Green's musical message, piano pop with hard-line born-again themes and lyrics showcasing his theatrical vocals ("Most people don't find out till they're half dead / That they need another life"), is presented in total on this posthumously issued volume of The Ministry Years. --Paige La Grone

Customer Reviews
Modern Psalmist
Keith Green is as close as you get to a modern psalmist. Unlike much of modern songs of worship which tend to sounds a lot like slightly modified secular love songs, Keith's lyrics are much more Davidesque. He has songs which reflect the struggle of day to day Christians much better than many songs you would hear at your average Pentecostal church meeting. For example songs sung from the point of view of Lucifer, songs filled with anguish over the state of the world and church and so on. You won't find any "I promise I'll be a nice person from now on God" type songs.
One caveat is that all his music was written in the 70s and so has that 70s feel to it. Seems to have a lot of Super-Tramp influence in the music department. Don't let this stop you from listening and enjoying the songs. It's the lyrics which make this a great worship CD. It is a shame Keith's life was cut so short.

What separates Keith Green from other Christian musicians?
He was, simply put, a heck of a songwriter and performer. His music stands head and shoulders above any other Christian music (besides that of the late Mark Heard -- why is it always the good ones?), because Keith was above all things an honest and genuine artist. Its musical sensibility and production value is equal to anything from the era -- Christian or secular -- with none of the maudlin and phony sentimentality that so often plagues Christian music. His songs are a pleasure, not a chore, to listen to. Alternately evoking late 1970s Billy Joel or Queen or Elton John, this collection is a rare treat. "The Prodigal Son Suite," completed after Keith's death, is a majestic and beautiful piece, and worth the price of the album alone.

Culturally Relevant
It seems like this generation needs Jesus more than any other. Of course, that's what I thought about my own generation. Keith Green was a true champion for Christ. He shared the Gospel message with unreserved enthusiasm, speaking out against complacency in the church, lacsidaisical servitude and obedience, and mediocrity. More than anything the world needs forward-thinking about the return of Christ and what we should be doing to prepare. In a world where modern Christian music has reverted to a marketing mode of mercenary money-making, this CD is refreshing, uncompromising in its message, and let's face it, this man was incredibly talented. The quality of the audio is fabulous - Keith Green fans will appreciate the remastering.

Great Gift
My mom had several Keith Green LP's, so I got this to bring her up to date. At first she thought she didn't know the songs (based on the titles) but once she listened she realized that she did. Great CD, amazing artist!
