Customer Reviews

5 stars Look no further for a good vampiric soundtrack
Looking for a good soundtrack to reading vampire novels or playing either incarnation of World of Darkness's Vampire RPGs? Look no further than Nox Arcana's "Transylvania". The cuts are lush and evocative, redolent of the dark, of decadance, of mystery and horror and the preternatural, of cruel, soulless yet elegent creatures of the night. This blend of professional-quality sound-effects, well-scored music, and just-the-right-length original verses makes the perfect musical backdrop for a Hallowe'en party, ghost story reading or vampire RPG session

5 stars True Gothic Music in it's Purest Form
The word Goth is thrown around a lot these days, and quite often it's used to describe something that actually is Gothic. Especially in the music world, much of the stuff that's labeled Gothic appeals to angry teenagers and upon inspection has absolutely no atmospheric or aesthetic qualities to make it Gothic on any level.

Thankfully, Nox Arcana exist to make glorious album after album of the most pure, most mood setting Gothic music the modern music world has to offer. Some prudists may balk at this sort of stuff, thinking it to be cheesy, yet to take on not only the idea of Gothic neoclassical music and use such legendary concepts such as Bram Stokers immortal novel is really quite brave stuff.

And if Stoker could hear this thing, he'd (hopefully) feel it to be adequate moody music for the themes his novel evoked. Sometimes quite, sometimes bombastic, always foreboding, and never ever cheesy (even when the occasional spoken vocal parts come up, they still fit and work), this is remarkable stuff.

Never do they overdo it, and while the music is accesable enough for most people searching for this kind of stuff, it still retains enough complexetiy to keep it fresh and new everytime it's listened to.

Rest assured, I'll be taking this one to my grave, pun intended.

5 stars Haunting and a Trip Through the Moors
Nox Arcana has created a CD that is not only haunting but has many layers of intricate sounds and eerie vocals that any sci/fi, horror, or goth fan would enjoy! All 21 tracks keep your interest and even one track is full of surprises so let this CD play through its entirety to find out!!

4 stars Good mood music
This is EXCELLENT mood music for halloween parties, role playing games, ghost story telling etc. Nox mixes little flashes of techno with what is recognizable as classic pulp horror film music to create that creepy mood that you need from time to time. You probably won't pop this in your standard mp3 mix to play on random, but the music does stand on its own (its not just loops like most mood music), so you can actually do that if this is "your style".

5 stars Fanttastic -- provided the majority of our underscoring of the play "The Haunting of Hill House"
If you are looking for eerie music, if you want to suggest the supernatural, "Transylvania" has got to be the best possible choice.
