5 stars Real Rancid
I'm going to go ahead and say it:

Best f**king punk rock album ever made.

The spirit and feeling and attitude behind this album forged every idea and inspiration I have ever had about punk rock. There were a few other albums that helped create my punk rock ideals, such as Bad Religions 'All Ages', Swingin' Utters 'Juvenile Product of the Working Class' and Propagandhis 'Less Talk, More Rock', but I have to say this album struck the hardest chord. 'Let's Go' is raw and real and when you listen to it, it makes you feel what punk rock is. It's hard to explain until you've heard it, but that is the only way I can explain listening to this album.

It's been many years since I picked up this record, but after blowing off the dust on the cover and placing it in my CD player, I felt the urge to shave my head, throw on my steel toed boots, and go smash someone's face in the mosh pit.

What is sad is that the Rancid everyone knows today and the Rancid I knew back then are completely different animals, and frankly, it makes me sick to see them now. Their self-titled first, this album, and 'And Out Come the Wolves' were some of the most heart-felt punk rock I'd ever heard, and now they are just spitting in my face. They might as well have made albums after their 2000 self-titled called "Everything We Stood for Was a Lie" and put a picture on the cover of them in a Lexus with gold chains and 100 dollar bills in their hands.

Anyway, great album, over-exposed punk rock band.

5 stars Ignore what Rancid became...
'cos this album is straight-ahead rock&roll at its best. Short burts of true grit. Motorcycle Ride, Harry Bridges, Solidarity... How can you complain when you're getting more than TWENTY-FIVE songs in a space where most bands deliver ten.

5 stars Two albums from Rancid you should get.
This album and the self titled album. The rest are not as inspired and not so spirited.

4 stars Not bad....not bad at all.
Got to admit didnt know what to expect from this one. Had heard all the talk of them having a very oi! sound mixed with hardcore and all the other post Opperation Ivy stuff as well but have to say, after just about 1 listen I was won over.

This is pretty good. Fast, loud and short is how this could best be described. Mix in a few Oi! style chants and you have some damn good music here.

Well worth buying.

5 stars Possibly my favorite Rancid album.
Rancid are a band I've been aware of for a long time but only REALLY started paying attention to in recent years. I actually had this burned for awhile, and I didn't realize that I didn't take to it as much as I have now! But what makes this record so great? The songs! Punk has never been about technical ability, and I always found that a little refreshing really, but Rancid may have their big '77 punk influence here, there's also kind of a style of their own on here. In fact, this record was too good for the mainstream to ignore, and it even got some MTV play and gave 'em more sales. Perfect timing too, as them and the Offspring were some of the biggest bands on Epitaph.

But it can appeal to the masses and has nice enough messages. The first album was recorded before Lars got into the band, and this one has his vocals on it. It's nice to hear the trade of his hard-edged and clear vocals and Tim's vocals which by contrast are more thin and less telligible. It's actually kind of charming. It's hard for me to pick my favorites between the first five songs, but those are not the only great tracks. Tracks like "Ghetto Box" and "Motorcycle Ride" stand out just as well. 23 songs takes awhile to fully adjust to, but once you're familiar, you won't want to stop listening to this. I am also very well aware of ...And Out Come The Wolves and Indestructible, which I enjoy. The other three I'm not quite as familiar with yet but they've all been at least four-star good with me by this point.
