Customer Reviews
Great buy
I am very happy with this C.D. I listen to it all the time. It was hard to find in stores and was well priced by seller!

Classic
Desmond Dekker is the king of the ska and this album proves it. This cd is great for dancing and feeling good

Songs that grow on you
Desmond Dekker's songs seem a little off-beat at first, but they slowly grow on one. IF YOU REALLY WANT IT, PRETTY AFRICA, IT MEK, and PROBLEMS are the best. HIPPOPOTAMUS is entertaining ("You only puppet... you nothing whatso..."), although the song may have multiple layers of meaning.
He is not as smooth as Alton Ellis but he probably has a greater range and his falsetto becomes more enjoyable with each listening session. This mixture of ska, rocksteady and roots is well worth checking out.

some great songs, some not-so-great songs, bogs down
I love Desmond Dekker, but there is too much filler on this CD. The album starts off great, then bogs down with some nondescript slow songs with no feel. There are better comps out there (read Sean's other reviews).

All you ever wanted to know, about the ROOTS of Regea!!!
Most of this compilation are some of the raw nerve roots of the 1960's Jamaca. The one track recordings (although remastered) totaly capture the sound of a lost era. Listen to this comp you wont regret it.
