Product Description: The Cure is bombarding us with disposable product: There's Show, the soundtrack from the film of its Detroit stop on the '92 Wish tour; Side Show, an EP of five live tunes not included on Show, and Paris, a different live set recorded in Europe. Considering that much of its reputation rests on Tim Pope's visionary videos, Show (the movie) is a dreadful bore, concentrating exclusively on the band performing, much like Pink Floyd's Live At Pompeii. The soundtrack is just as tedious, skimping on the catchy hits ("Friday I'm in Love" is here, but not "The Love Cats") and dwelling on droning mood pieces such as "From the Edge of the Deep Green Sea." Show is for the devoted only, while the other discs are for those devotees who actually go out in public dressed like Fat Bob. --Jim DeRogatis

Customer Reviews

5 stars If I could only give it more stars...
This live album is flawless. It is by far, better than I've ever imagined live albums could endeavor to be. Let me give you an example. "Play For Today", off of "Seventeen Seconds", was an okay song. Nothing to jump up and scream over though. Good enough to go on the mp3 player, but not enough to play constantly or anything. Well, I decided to go ahead and listen to it on Paris, just for the hell of it, since everything else was so great.

The live version of this song absolutely kills the original!!! I was blown away when I heard the sheer magnificence of this performance. It was darker, more grandiose and more complex, just absolutely stunning.

"Dressing Up" is also breathtaking, and this was a song that I already loved.Ditto for classics such as "The Figurehead"...if a song like "Play For Today" can be turned into a masterpiece, then what do you think that the greats sound like?

5 stars Ignore Show
SHOW is just a cash-in on the pop hits that have been played too many times. PARIS is a fantastic live CD that shows The Cure to be brave enough to release dark songs that are much less well-known. I'm especially pleased with the inclusion of "Dressing Up" from THE TOP. Always a nice song, it's even better live, and no one seems to have ever heard of it, which is a shame.

This is a very well-produced product from the 1992 tour. The performances are amazing all around. The version of "The Figurehead" which opens it is fantastic. Slowed down and even darker than the original from [...], it sets the mood very well. "One Hundred Years" is awesome, as always, and ends with Robert playing the riff from "Foxy Lady" for a moment or two. Very cool.

I'm glad they included "A Letter to Elise" and "Apart" from WISH on here. They're the two best songs on the album this tour was promoting, certainly a lot better than "High" and "Friday I'm in Love," which are more well-known. (Of course, the two popular songs are very nice, too.)

Ending with "Close to Me" is a bit of an odd choice, I think, but it's always a groovy tune. Honestly, though, I think I would have rather it end with "A Forest." Ah, well. Maybe someday they'll release a Deluxe Edition PARIS with the entire show included. That'd be great.

5 stars This along with Show makes for a fine live experience
I had Show for years and really liked it but kept reading reviews that talked about the superiority of Paris. I ordered a used copy from amazon and found the reviews to be true. Show is still highly recommended but if you're a big fan of the group you'll also want to get Paris.
The highlight of the set - Catch! Check it out.

4 stars Estaban inspirados

5 stars Just Say Yes......
Just say yes to this album, and its brother show, however go for Show [UK], which includes all tracks except for the encore; which I wish so much had been included. I highly recommend you purchase the video versions of both; hearing The Cure live is itself excellent, but seeing it simotaneously is brilliant. I personally do not agree with the editorial provided by this site, Show and Paris are both equally good albums, mere differnet selections. Paris gathering up the older Cure classics while Show endulges us into the bands second phase which grew out of Head on the Door. Let us not forget Show does give us its share of old favorites: Boys Don't Cry, Inbetween Days, A Forest, Primary, not to mention it was the 'Wish' tour.

So..my friends, if you want satisfaction of a purchase, take my assurance, from one of the biggest Cure fans you'll find.
