Product Description: Like his friend Vince Gill, Brad Paisley has achieved the often-difficult feat of reconciling being an entertainer and world-class guitarist. He's proven that on four admirable albums, and 5th Gear follows in that vein. Certainly "Ticks," an airy, radio-friendly ditty, is not the true substance here. That comes with such superior fare as the insightful "All I Wanted Was a Car" and "Online," a sly satire of people's Web facades. While his duet with Carrie Underwood ("Oh Love") is a bit cut and dried, Paisley ably handles "Letter to Me," "It Did," and "Mr. Policeman," a 21st-century outrun-the-law tune. The closing hymn, "When We All Get to Heaven," and ripping instrumental "Throttleneck" are Paisley at his best. It's admirable that he invites his venerable buddies, Little Jimmy Dickens, George Jones, Vince Gill, and Bill Anderson, along with Dolly Parton, to join in, but the obligatory "Kung Pao Buckaroos" skit is wearing a bit thin. Better to feature them musically, the way he includes Dickens, Gill, and Anderson on "Bigger Fish to Fry." In a time where lines between county and pop are blurring far too much, it's comforting to know Paisley still realizes and respects the differences. --Rich Kienzle

3 stars I Didn't Enjoy 5th Gear as Much as "Time Well Wasted"
I love Brad Paisley but didn't enjoy 5th Gear as much as I thought I would. I couldn't wait for the cd's release although I didn't enjoy the single "Ticks." I also did not like the single "Online" although I love "Letter to Me." I guess that's the problem with this album; its very hit or miss and I was expecting more from the lyrical content. I enjoy every other song it seems like and thus, I see this album as being average. While Brad's vocie is great to listen to, I need more than that and don't think this album stands up to "Time Well Wasted" or "Mud on the Tires."

5 stars fifth gear
I ENJOYED 14 OF THE 16 SONGS A LOT. I WOULD RECOMEND THIS AS A KEEPER.

5 stars 5th Gear is High Gear
This CD is excellent. I saw Brad Paisley in concert a few months ago, and decided to purchase this CD. Make sure to listen the last few tracks (which aren't listed on the playlist); funny, funny. The songs are an excellent fix, some funny, some sad, all worth hearing. Paisley is among the best of his generation of country stars; the accolades that he receives are well deserved.

5 stars Brad At His Best
Just when I think Brad can't possibly do it again, he does. This is a great CD full of funny, emotion moving music. There is just enough of everything. You hae the oh so humorous side of side that is always a pleasure and the heartfelt that just mkaes you feel warm inside. The whole CD is awesome. My favorites are "Ticks", "Online", "Mr Policeman", and "i'm Still A Guy", At the end are the Kung Pau Buckaroo bits and I laugh every time I hear them.

5 stars Great Music From a Great Artist!
Country music almost seems to be merging together, with so many popular artists sounding very alike. Paisley completely gets around this with fresh lyrics in particular. This is the best country music CD I've purchased in quite awhile.
