Product Description: It's common knowledge that solo albums are simply an excuse for a frustrated band member to indulge their experimental sides and Rob Thomas, singer for decidedly M.O.R. multiplatinum rockers Matchbox Twenty is not one to pass on the opportunity. Having already explored the classic rock thing through his collaborations with Mick Jagger and Santana, Thomas goes the other way here with results that are unexpected, and, sometimes totally unbelievable. He veers from modern R&B on the Justin Timberlake-aping "Lonely No More" to vintage prog-rock in "All That I Am," touching on all points in between. There are a few nods to the Matchbox canon with "Ever the Same" and "This Is How a Heart Breaks" but, as the title suggests, this is an album about finding himself. For the moment, Thomas is still searching. The DualDisc portion features 5.1 surround sound, a 20-minute documentary on the making of the album by filmmaker Gillian Grisman, plus the holiday tune, "Christmas in New York." --Aidin Vaziri

Customer Reviews

5 stars He has a vigorous voice!
Love the voice. Love the way when he performs on stage, too. He looks better with light blond hair I think.

5 stars Rob Thomas is so versatile
The first time I noticed his wonderful, extremly catchy was when he performed "Smooth" with Santana. His voice is so masculine and eager that can bring people to high emtion!
No wonder they (Santana and him earned the Grammy).
I tried Matchbox 20 eversince but when I saw him broke out with his own record, I was really impressed. I admit that I am not a regular Rock fan. My taste is very ecclectic and this is exactly what I like about this album: it has some Rock songs and also some Soul/Latin/RB ...what ever you define it but ithas it all in here. Bravo. Rob!

3 stars Okay
I thought this would have been a great cd, but it was a little dissatisfying.

4 stars dual cd not a plus
This can be played on one side as a cd and the other as a dvd, but we just play it in our car and it has a hard time reading the cd. The music is excellent though.

4 stars A good exploration of sound and style
This is an interesting debut album that explores other styles of music that he normally doesn't touch when fronting MB20. He has a remarkable voice and is a dynamic singer. Highlights include "Lonely No More," "This is how a heart breaks," and for my money, the best song on the disc ..."Streetcorner Synphony."
