Product Description: Feist is the solo project of Canada's Leslie Feist, a prolific artist who has also played in one capacity or another with Broken Social Scene, Kings of Convenience and half a dozen other bands. The Reminder, her third release, comes from the same well of quiet, appealing songwriting, and delicate vocalizations that made 2004's Let It Die such a sweet treat. This one is a bit more hushed and ballad heavy, closer to Cat Power than Peaches (with whom Feist has also worked with in the past) but maintains an indie-minded blend of confessional pop, jazzy folk, and lo-fi torch songs. The comparatively upbeat single "My Moon My Man" splits her voice off into unexpected harmonies, just dissonant enough to stick in your head. It's hard to predict where her melodies are going to end up; "Brandy Alexander" starts with a simple snap-pulse, and gradually unfolds into a cathartic chorus of sweeping vocal overlays. Throughout, the record profits from a simple, unfussy aesthetic that keeps the production minimal and the emphasis squarely on Feist's cracking, wistful vibrato. Everything sounds deliberate, but not obsessed over, like an e-mailed wedding invitation. It's a low-pressure vibe, welcoming and content to linger. And linger you will. --Matthew Cooke

5 stars Pleasantly Surprised
I actually purchased this for a friend before I bought it for myself. I admit, I discovered her once I looked up that catchy song from the iPod commercials. I sampled the songs and didn't find them to be anything special- but once I listened to the entire CD, I fell in love with it. It's a feel good CD, and definitely a great CD to sing along with. My favorite song being "The Limit to Your Love."

4 stars 2007 Album of the Year
I was never a big Feist fan until this album. 'let it Die' had some fantastic tracks (Mushaboom, Gatekeeper) but the rest of the album left me wanting more. 'The Reminder' fulfills that wish. Every track on this album, excluding the out of place 'Sea Lion Woman' fits wonderfully together. Her hauntingly beautiful voice makes me you feel like she is telling you a deep dark secret each and every moment.

The highlights of this great album include the opener, 'So Sorry' which is simplistic beauty, which is when Feist is at her best. 'Intuition' is another gorgeous track which has Feist at her best vocally and a haunting guitar playing throughout, to go with her already mysterious voice.

She also has enough songs on here that could do well commercially. Of course there is 1,2,3,4 which got her noticed in the public eye, but she laso has 'My Moon My Man', 'I Feel it All' and another favorite of mine, 'Past In Present'. All these songs are good, but I find myself liking her beautiful simple songs the best.

This was my album of the year in 2007. A lot of good music came out in 07', but this disk stood out above all to me. If you have yet to listen to this CD, please do. You will enjoy it, and I know I will for many years to come.

5 stars The Reminder
When I first heard 1234, I was afraid that the fact that Leslie Feist began to mainstream would just wear out her music, like most indie artists that make it big. It wasn't my favorite song, and I had never heard of Feist before, but I listened to the album in an attempt to find something new. I listened to some of the best songs this year, but nothing quite matches up to The Reminder. There is a breezy, natural feeling about it. It seems like many artists today try to deliberately be different, but in turn everybody seems to be the same. But the whimsical way Feist's pipes work paired with the soft acoustics and drums makes it incomparable to anything else. My favorites are Sea Lion Woman (the official name for it is Sea Lion Woman, but it's listed here as Sealion), My Moon My Man, I Feel It All, So Sorry, and Honey Honey.

5 stars Great!
Just... I love this album! Amazing music, great lyrics. I can listen this album again and again.

5 stars skeptical at first
My brother was the one who introduced me to Feist. He followed Leslie Feist's work with Broken Social Scene, admiring her musical talent and willingness to experiment. He started putting songs from Let It Die onto mix CDs for me. I loved the music; it was unlike anything I had ever heard before yet strangely nostalgic. A few months after becoming acquainted with "Mushaboom" and "Secret Heart," I learned that she was going to release a new CD- Feist-The Reminder. I anticipated this CD so much that I bought the first copy I came across without bothering to look at the price. I waited a little while to listen to it; I'm always wary when experiencing new music- I like to sample it first. Eventually, I popped the CD into my player and started shuffling through the songs. By the end of the CD, I had only come across 3 songs I had the patience to listen to. I felt completely let down- how could she disappoint like that? I couldn't understand what she was singing or figure out what some of the instruments were that were making those sounds I heard! I was reluctant to give up too quickly, however, and gave her another chance. After a few long drives in my car, a few more songs started to grow on me, like "Brandy Alexander." It wasn't until after I saw her in concert that I fully appreciated the artistry in Feist-The Reminder. Seeing the songs performed live with accompanying images and anecdotes was like an epiphany; it finally all made sense. Now I savor every song every time I listen to the album- songs that I usually skipped over, such as "The Park" and "The Limit to your Love." Each element in the album is basic and completely purposeful. Not too little piano, not too much guitar, just the right level of distortion-to my ears, this album is now nearly perfect. If you, like me, don't get it at first, give it some time- chances are you'll figure it out and you'll like what you hear.
