Product Description: Let's see...a rap artist is hyped insufferably, his music is leaked incessantly, his album is delayed indefinitely, the hype grows, rinse, repeat. Welcome to the world of pop music in 2006, when "unauthorized" Internet seepage can somehow manage to simultaneously make and break an aspiring young performer. Lupe Fiasco's unfinished debut CD was slathered all over the Web for months, like some sort of Lonelygirl15, before finally seeing the legitimate light of day. That said, the Chicago-bred rapper, who rose to prominence thanks to his "Touch the Sky" collab with Kanye West, is hardly a slouch. His skittering, low-key rapping style is truly distinctive, and his lyrics are mostly thoughtful and creative without being heavy-handed. Despite frequent comparisons to "thinking man's rappers" from Tribe and De La Soul to Nas, the most apt comparison might be to Kanye West himself: Like West, Fiasco rises above the trappings of the street without sounding condescending or out of touch, and his sound has the same "timeless" quality--partly old-school, partly of the moment. Yet somehow, Food & Liquor isn't quite a home run either; it lacks fire and it cries out for an infectious track or two that really sticks. Still, Lupe distinguishes himself as an artist to watch. --Marc Greilsamer

5 stars SO AMAZINGLY GOOD!
I am in love with this album...every track is so well done! You must listen!

5 stars Best purchase I have made in a long time!
I love every song on this cd. This is the best cd that I have purchased and heard in a long time. It is nice to finally hear someone rap about actual things going on in the world. I plan to buy the rest of Lupe Fiasco's cd ASAP. Do yourself and favor and buy this cd.

5 stars Best debut album since College Dropout
This is definitely in my top 5 rap albums ever. The entire cd is solid all way through. Lupe's lyricism, wordplay, and storytelling make me listen to this album over and over, which is something I usually can't do with a cd. Although I gave the album 5 stars, there were a few things I didn't like, which don't affect the rating much: the intro track would've been cooler with a verse, and I didn't care for the American Terrorist song much. I can see why people would like that song, though, it's just not my kind of song. Also, the outro track is tiring; it's cool if you knew Lupe and you are listening to hear him shout your name, but otherwise, this last track is just skippable - or just don't put it on your iPod to save space. Otherwise, the other 13 tracks are perfection to me.

Excellent album.

Lupe is the new messiah of rap. His lyrics are damn near godly. Get this album as soon as u can and help support Lupe.

4 stars Lupe Fiasco "Lupe Fiasco's Food & Liquor"- 4.5 Stars
Lupe Fiasco's debut album "Lupe Fiasco's Food & Liquor" is one the best debut albums in the past decade. Lupe was prevalent on the mix tape circuit in Chicago before getting his mainstream breakthrough. Most of the world first heard of this artist on Kanye West's single "Touch The Sky" off of Late Registration. Well, working with Mr. West must have influenced him to put out gold on his first release. Lyrically, this is one the most creative LPs in a while. Songs such as "Kick, Push II, Hurt Me Soul, and my personal favorite, The Cool, show how talented this young artist is. The production here is great. With Kanye West, Prolyfic, and Lupe's favored beatmakers, Soundtrakk, the music behind the stellar lyrics is awesome. Guest spots are held to the singing of choruses, and Jay-Z on "Pressure". Jay drops a decent verse on the song, but nothing too special. Overall, this is a great album, and a certified banger of the last decade. Personally, it is in my top 5 since 1998. If you haven't yet heard this, check it out. You won't be disappointed.
