Product Description: Jack Johnson recorded his fourth album using nothing but solar power. This is somehow fitting for a singer-songwriter, surfer, and filmmaker who spends most of his days floating in the ocean under Hawaii's open skies. The forces of nature certainly seem to have found their way into the mellow grooves of standout tracks like "What You Thought You Need," "Adrift," and "Go On," songs so lovely and effortless that you can almost hear the melodies coming to Johnson on a warm breeze that rustles through the coconut trees. Sleep Through the Static documents his best work to date, even better than the Curious George soundtrack. The sedate singer transforms the acoustic campfire strums of the past into sublime, soulful ruminations on his wife, kids, and the state of the world. He even manages to conjure up some real anger on the title track, which is hardly diminished by its lavish grooves and glistening harmonies. --Aidin Vaziri

Customer Reviews

5 stars Ahhhh...
What's cool about Jack is that even his most depressing tunes are relaxing in that laid-back Hawaiian style. There's a lot of disappointment in the state of the world on this album, and a lot of interesting commentary, but the tunes themselves are still calming and uplifting. I love Same Girl and Angel and oh, too many to list. Bonus: my kiddos love it too, and it's so good that it lulls the littlest one to restful sleep on long car rides...
Very cool to know about the solar energy recording sessions, but I would've bought it anyway. I listen to it every day!

4 stars Solid CD
I'm a new fan of Jack Johnson and this CD took three or four complete listens before I got it but, after that, I was hooked. Listened to it many times since and after putting it away for a couple of months, I took it back out to listen to chill out.
I like the music. Mellow and, as someone else said, thought provoking.

5 stars Best Yet
Our children introduced us to Jack Johnson several years ago. His music is contagious, thought-provoking and mellow. There is no screaming or swearing -- it's relaxing and upbeat. Some of the songs have lyrics that are repeated...and repeated...and repeated. However, we enjoyed the CD so much that we sent copies of it to my 5 brothers and sisters. Highly recommended.

5 stars Jack's Best
This is Jack Johnson's best and most complete album. If you like Jack Johnson this CD is a must. If you like acoustic rock and relaxing music, this album is a must. I highly recommend this album.
