What I've been waiting for.
This is the Def Leppard album I've been waiting to hear since Retroactive. I think this is up their with Pyromania and Hysteria, which is something I though I would never say about another Def Leppard album again. I can honestly say there is not a bad track on the disc in my opinion and it just gets better with every listen. A perfect summertime CD, which won't be leaving my player for awhile. If you're a Def Leppard fan at all, then do yourself a favor and enjoy some of the best rock tracks of the year!

Robots spared this time for a more humanistic approach
This time 'round, the T-1000 and T-2000 robots were not thrust upon the boys of Def Leppard to create an album. Things were done more organically in the studio on this go around, though come to think of it, in this fake age of digital everything, what music could be considered authentically organic except that of Korn and Bush?

For those that don't know the story, the model T-1000 and T-2000 robots created Pyromania and Hysteria, respectively. "Hysteria" was an especially souless and concocted pop-metal monstrosity that, despite all the accolades in his favor, Robert John "Mutt" Lange did little to influence. In fact, Mutt was so drugged out during the "Hysteria" sessions that not only did the T-2000s do the majority of the work, but the members of Def Leppard were simultaneously contained in a freeze-dried chamber for four straight years, quite similar to the one Han Solo occupied from 1980-83, before Luke Skywalker gained the heart and opportunity to rescue him in Jabba's eerie lair. In the meantime, poor Mutt, who at this point had not met Shania Twain and was never a fan of the Star Wars series of movies, only contributed one measly riff during the "Hysteria" studio sessions, which was methodically inserted into the final song of the record by the empathetic T-2000s. (Hey, cheer up, Mutt, it really is a pretty cool riff when played over and over!!) Tragically, a few mishaps occured when the Sheffield boys were released from their freeze-dried chambers; specifically, Joe Elliott came down with the mumps and, worse yet, young Rick Allen lost an appendage.

But all that is long past. Def Leppard hit the ground running with this humdinger of a CD, which is enhanced by the burly vocals of wildcat Tim McGraw on the hit single "Nine Lives," a song amazingly reminiscent of "Overture" from Leppard's best-selling record of 1980, On Through the Night. Much to its credit, the group really tried hard on "Sparkle Lounge," creating lush but crunchy sounds that range from The Beatles to Led Zeppelin and back again to Queen. Mostly, though, it's all Leppard's sound, which is a refreshing change from the mid-1980s, when the band seemed to be suffering from some empty, out-of-touch neurosis that affected its music, image and ability to perform at its best while being played on MTV.

Anyone know who won that Lakers game? I've got money on the Celtics this year.

Awesome-Worth the wait
This CD of all new material was well worth waiting for! I was hooked right away. The radio stations have been playing "Nine Lives" for a couple of weeks and I wasn't sure what to expect once I listened to the entire CD. I wasn't disappointed. "C'mon, C'mon" is a real rocker and I could listen to "Love" over and over just to try and hear the different influences (Queen, Beatles, ELO, etc.) mixed in there. There isn't one track on here that I don't like. Great job guys!

Another dead record from Def Leppard
Since the grunge thing happened the only half decent song that this band ever released was Promises from that phony album called Euphoria (the song was produced by Mutt Lange). Now, somebody's gotta tell Mr. Elliott that the grunge thing is over and that the band should write a real Def Leppard album for a change -- to see their audiences embracing new songs in their shows. Until then the band will have to rehearse for more Photograph and Pour Some Sugar on me. I can't see this cd selling more 100,000 copies in the US, I will see them this summer though!
