Product Description: In 1976, when the Eagles, Peter Frampton, and Heart ruled the rock airwaves, along came five scruffy young men (the lead guitarist was maybe all of 18 and dressed in a schoolboy's uniform) from Australia playing some of the rowdiest, hardest, dirtiest rock of all time. Screaming "It's a Long Way to the Top (If You Wanna Rock 'n' Roll)," singer Bon Scott teased like a braggart. Sensing the rock community's growing dissatisfaction with bloated, epic-scaled bands, AC/DC were indeed a high-voltage act: their drummer nailed the beat with fury, their bluesy guitar riffs mutated into something metallic and sharp-edged, and Scott's vocals took the shrillness of early Robert Plant to a leaner and meaner place. "Live Wire" is one of the most electrifying hard rock songs imaginable, "High Voltage" and "TNT" are the musical equivalent of touching exposed nerves with a rusty fork, and "Jack" proves that white rock dudes can, contrary to popular belief, get down. Whew! --Lorry Fleming

Customer Reviews
The title says is all!
Simple straight forward high powered Rock n roll!! No need for complexity. The power of High Voltage and Live Wire, coupled with the fun of Little Lover and Can I Sit Next To You Girl added to the not-played-enough Its A Long Way To the Top and over-played TNT make this a must have album in your collection. Only true AC/DC fans know this and other albums deeply enough to appreciate all the great music they made. Go get one for your own!!

A Strong Debut!
Early AC/DC can be a bit confusing, especially for the new fan, as the band had multiple releases, domestic (Australian) and international, and the tracks weren't at all consistent between those releases. Their first, full fledged international release was this album, High Voltage, which is essentially a combination of their first two releases in their native Australia, High Voltage and TNT. From the Australian High Voltage, the band draws only two tracks, those being the "She's Got Balls," and "Little Lover," while seven tracks are pulled from the Australian TNT (yes..."High Voltage" is off of TNT and not the album of the same name). There's no question that there's some great material, here. But the band is still young, and it shows. Their writing isn't quite as strong as on later releases, but it's still a very enjoyable, raw album from a very young band.
Much of the material left off of the international release can be found on '74 Jailbreak.

A rockin CD!
Ac/DC rocked the house back when the AM radio crowd was swaying peacfully to Captain and Tenile.
Angus could rock with the best of em and he was only 18.
High voltage is right! THIS ALBUM IS PURE POWER!
Keep on rockin in a free world!

High Praise for High Voltage
I did not grow up in Australia so this is the only version/arrangement of High Voltage that I have ever known. Frankly, griping about this record being a hacked up version of TNT and the original Australian release of High Voltage seems silly at this late date but maybe I'm missing something. My first exposure to this record was seeing it in a friends bedroom that he shared with his older brother. It was fairly captivating - grown man in a school boy outfit holding and electric guitar with what look like devil horns in front of a lightning bolt - how could a 12 year old look away! What's inside is captivating as well. The first track is particularly interesting and while the Pogues get most of the credit for the celtic punk genre a great debt is also certainly owed to AC/DC. A great idea is a great idea - Rock and Roll with bagpipe accompaniment was a great idea! Rock and Roll Singer and Little Lover are classic examples of the wry and juvenile sense of humor of Bon Scott and are two of the best on this record. The only real let down persent is She's Got Balls and the short track list. For me this is one of those records that has a distinct foot print in a time in my life. Even as the years go by I can still hear my buddy Mike chuckling at the question, "was it Coca Cola?" If you love AC/DC this is a must have and if you suspect you might like them you should start here.
