Product Description: This "back-to-the-roots" road-trip documentary CD/DVD from blues-rocking guitarist Kenny Wayne Shepherd can be viewed in two ways--it's either the culmination of a long-held desire to promote and play with some unheralded blues veterans before they pass away (as six had already done since the recording was made, 2½ years before its early 2007 release) or a way to regain the blues audience Shepherd all but alienated on his artistically and commercially disappointing 2004 hard-rock release, The Place You're In. Ultimately, it succeeds on both accounts. Regardless of the project's inspiration, the results by and large justify whatever the means might have been to get this show on the road--literally and figuratively. Shepherd hit the highway for a week and a half along with producer Jerry Harrison (ex-Talking Heads), a portable studio, and backup musicians including the rhythm section from Stevie Ray Vaughan's Double Trouble. He searched out blues artists both obscure (the late guitarist Etta Baker, who plays in her kitchen, is a highlight) and better known (Clarence "Gatemouth" Brown and B.B. King) for a series of acoustic and electric jams, all of which feature Shepherd--who, to his credit, generally keeps his hot-dogging tendencies in check. A closing concert featuring members of Howlin' Wolf and Muddy Waters' bands never quite generates the heat it should, but country bluesmen Cootie Stark, Neil Pattman, and harmonica ace Jerry "Boogie" McCain provide plenty of sparks. Shepherd seems sincere enough, but the real stars are the ageing musicians who have maintained their chops and intensity through a lifetime of performing music that clearly comes from the soul. --Hal Horowitz

5 stars What is left to say?
I initially wasn't going to add anything to this heavily reviewed item except to note that there is a reason this project generated so much buzz. Now that many of the artists featured are deceased, it reinforces how valuable the effort was and how noble the intent. I bought this package along with "Live On", and listened to that one first. Wasn't really enthused about it, decided to not review it. Then I watched "10 Days Out" and have had the CD in my truck ever since. Make sure to watch the Extras on the DVD as well, to catch Kenny and Buddy Flett light off a smokin' version of Flett's "Dance For Me Girl". Also - as an aside, I am getting to see BB later this month at age 82. If it wasn't for this DVD, I really wouldn't have appreciated how much this is an opportunity that must not be missed. It isn't very often that an artist puts something out that leaves you feeling grateful. Thanks to all involved.

5 stars music review
Awesome cd. Great music. If you love the blues buy this cd. you won't be sorry.

4 stars excellent music - fascinating musicians
I listened to the CD portion of this set first, in the car, and really enjoyed it. Then, as I later had time to watch the DVD, knew that I'd enjoy the CD even more when I could visualize the musicians making it. Kenny Wayne and the video guys obviously had a good time doing it, and their respect for the blues musicians (very few of which I had previously heard of) is obvious. Then, to hear these men (and one woman) talking about making music for 30, 40, 60 years - however long - is fascinating. It kinda makes you catch your breath and say, 'Wow!' The jams you get to see and hear are what getting blues musicians together is all about. Awesome CD / DVD set.

5 stars great music
I thoroughly enjoy this CD, being able to hear some great blues singers that may not be around much longer. Thanks to KWS for taking the time to go and see these people.

5 stars 10 days out kenny wayne shepherd
This was one of the best pieces of history I have seen in a very long time. Many of the blues players interviewed will not be with us much longer, and Mr. Shepherd captured true living history. It is not necessary to be into the blues music to appreciate this DVD and CD. It is America at it's finest moments and some embarassing moments.
