5 stars John Stewart knew America
My wife and I were at the Phoenix Concert. It was the most memorable concert I have ever attended. No one left there untouched by his love of country (Mother Country and California Bloodlines) and his humor (daydream believer) or his humanity. At one point in the concert he wanted the audience to sing along with him on California Bloodlines. It was pitiful. So he stopped right in the middle of the song, looked out at us and said, "I know. It's hard to sing in front of strangers. You're all thinking the guy next to you will realize you can't sing. The funny thing is he's thinking the same thing about you. Come on, it feels good to sing!" The crowd laughed and when he started over we all sang our hearts out.

John, brother we miss you. We need your kind of America and American.

5 stars A Giant Singer-Songwriter in His Prime
John Stewart was an American classic! I write this after learning of his passing on January 19, 2008 and I am listening to this wonderful concert once again as I write!

I was incredibly fortunate to be in the Phoenix audience when this was recorded. It was an awesome concert! This recording does a great job of capturing the incredible experience. Because of KDKB radio and Bill Compton (Program Manager), John had become a huge star in Phoenix. He deserved the fame and he would have become a national star, if only independent radio wasn't killed off by the commercial pablum which reigns today.

My only quibble with this CD is that the vocal comments between songs are attached to the previous track, not the track they introduce.

Rest in Peace John! My best wishes to Buffy and the children!

5 stars excellent digital remastering
This is such a good production and performance. john Stewart is a classic folk/rock bridge and he brings passion and excellence to this performance. Also the crowd is as passionate as he is. Some of the songs especially "The Last Campaign" and "Cody" bring me right there with him.

5 stars John Stewart's High Water Mark
I have been a casual Stewart fan for many years; aware of his more commercial pieces. I have recently undertaken a more comprehensive study of his work. I have gained an increasing appreciation and whole new perspective on this man's work. If one wanted just one collection of Stewart, I would suggest the Phoenix Concerts, it represents him well.

I have heard it said before and I wholeheartedly agree; John Stewart is the most underrated songwriter of his generation.

1 stars pretty disappointing
I've heard a bunch of John Stewart that I've liked (not a huge fan) and generally like live recordings, so I gave this a try without hearing it. It isn't terrific. Recording quality is so-so, and music is so-so. Win some, lose some.
