Great renditions of seldom heard material
Never mind the songs from Fiddler, although it is interesting to hear "Sunrise Sunset" sung in Yiddish, the original cast album does a better job. However, this CD is worth having for some of the Jewish folk songs, some of which I had never heard before. "Oy a nacht..." is a beautiful song, beautifully done. And "Dortn, dortn" is a real heartbreaker if you understand Yiddish, and lovely even if you do not.
While the songs are described in the liner notes, I would have liked to have been provided with the exact Yiddish words, and a good translation.
I play this disk very frequently.
