Customer Reviews
Amazing LIVE performance!!
I just received this CD yesterday and have been a huge Jean-Luc Ponty fan for years. Enigmatic Ocean is my all time favorite studio album of his, BUT, listening to this LIVE album recorded in Dec.1978 took my breath away. I'm a musician who loves to hear other musicians just tear it up. And tear it up they do on this remarkable recording. This is a true musicians recording to listen to. The talent is just amazing and the passages played by all the players are as good as you will find anywhere. This is not a pop/rock album, but the best of electric jazz rock fusion you will find on any recording. Play it loud for the maximum effect!!

The best
This is not only Jean Luc Ponty's best album, it's the best jazz fusion album ever. I no longer have the original vynil album and for many years this master piece was just a remember - until now. I always try to introduce my kids to real good music and we talked a couple of times about this album, now we'll finally have the opportunity to share a magic moment hearing Ponty Live.

The best Jean-Luc Ponty album ever!
One of the greatest Live albums ever recorded! What a pity that it took so long to get it released on CD. I first heard this album in 1980. I was 14. My elder brother made me listen to it "The sound is unbelievable, this will blow you away!" He was right. I was instantly hooked. Once in a while, the planets line up just the right way, great musicians get together and the result is a Live album of truly epic proportions, an album that defines a style and a musical era. Jean-Luc Ponty: Live is such an album. Just like my brother told me, let ME tell you: this album will blow you away!

Tthe legend is literally on fire with very cohesive band
By researching the label, Wounded Bird, we learn it was formed in 1998 as
a label that specializes in the reissue of albums from the 60's, 70's
music. That's a omen of this release, because it brings to the discerning
listener a live performance of when JLP was at still coasting at his
peak, in terms of time on the road, original numbers being composed and
released on album. Of course, a decade later, through the 90's, JLP
still demonstrated immense talent, and originality, but the sound was
slightly more World Music at times, and at others, emphasizing keyboard
compositions, more intricate and complicated.
In summary, on this release, as with the release CHENE PARK, JLP shows
that at times, the legend is literally on fire, with the lead guitarist
also playing extremely tight and fast riffs, with the bass and drums
following closely behind. For anyone appreciating the studio works, this
albums allows you to see the numbers played live, with the natural live
spontaneity and feel that live music brings.

1979 Re-lived
I saw the 1979 concert at the Rainbow theatre in London,England which was more or less a replication of this stunning CD's tracklist. I had the vinyl LP for a few years in the 1980's and longed for the CD to be released. Wounded Bird did the business and voila! It's like being 21 all over again and present at one of the greatest live gigs of its type. Ever. Period!
First time I played it, the shivers went down my spine. What supreme musicianship. What a concert. If you have a hankering for JLP's Atlantic years - buy this.
