Excellent Set
Gene Harris would be best classified as a hard bopper with a funky touch. But whatever he and his group played, so much soul was infused into it that the result was always a consistently blues oriented groove. A good example of blues at its best can be heard on "Mysterioso".If you like something at a more brisk tempo, try "Strolling" or "Jeanine". His propensity for the blues overshadowed his fantastic touch with a ballad. "Till The Real Thing Comes Along" is excuciatingly beautiful. If you appreciate good jazz piano in a quartet setting, you will want this cd.......and more than likely most of his others on the Concord Jazz label.
