Product Description: Almost as famous for their killer cheekbones as their astounding musical chops, this Platinum-selling Irish family band (sisters Andrea, Caroline and Sharon plus brother, Jim) has cut a major swath, garnering an international fan-base with their Celtic-flavored electrified pop and feisty live shows. They decided to cut an album of mostly traditional songs as a memorial to their mother, Jean, a musician and song collector who died in 1999. But as with Sinead O'Connor's 2002 Sean-Nos Nua, their treatments, while perfectly authentic, also reflect their more usual style. The opening selection, a spooky lullaby called "My Lagan Love", features martial-sounding drums, washes of parlor piano and banked strings straight out an Arab-Andalouse orchestra. "Peggy Gordon", about unrequited love, has a retro folk-rock back-beat that works beautifully with the plaintive vocals. "Old Hag" is a rollicking instrumental while the Irish-language "Buachaill On Eirne" and "Brid Og Ni MHaille", if a tad unidiomatic, do not lack charm. But the track that lingers longest in the ear is "Dimming Of The Day", a gloriously moving ballad from the pen of British singer-songwriter Richard Thompson. --Christina Roden

5 stars Awesome Traditional Irish Music
I have been using the CD for my daily yoga practice. Great traditional Irish music. I always love the band so it doesnt matter which CD, I always love theirs. My favorites are Peggy Gordon and My Lagan Love.

4 stars Grows on you
Initially, I was disappointed with this album. Being a Corrs fan, I was expecting something a little more upbeat and catchy. This album, however, is nothing like any of their other albums. It's not celtic pop - it's irish folk. And even though at first it might seem unfamiliar and disappointing - it grows on you.

The standout tracks here are 'Heart Like A Wheel', 'Peggy Gordon', 'Black is The Color' and 'Dimming of The Day'.

If you want some music on a nice quiet evening - this is the album to play.

1 stars Good Traditional Irish songs ruined
Am a Corrs fan, so was eager for this new album ... a trip back to their Irish roots. Unfortunately, all I can take from the album are the "breathy" vocals ... you hear EVERY SINGLE intake of breath between notes and its VERY DISTRACTING! I realize breathing is necessary, but it shouldn't be so front and center in each arrangement. As it stands, I can't bear to try a second listen. Move further from the mike already!

5 stars Didn't love it at first, but listening it over time, it grows on you!
The Corrs decided to do what they are good at. Or in other words, where they come from. This album features many of the greatest Irish songs of all time. I saw it first that I didn't love it at first. It's because I was expecting Corrs' style music not down to gritty pure Irish music. I decided to write this review it's because I think many of the listeners would feel the same way like I did but they didn't turn out to love it at the end.

I've to really give it up to the studio crew at dublin who helped them record this album. It sounds superb!!! Unbelievably clear sound. Especially when you have someone like Andrea that sings that well. It really needs nothing more but her voice to be heard. And yes, I'm saying it again. Andrea's voice is the key to this album. A lot of the melodies didn't come out directly from the instruments. Don't get me wrong though, there's still drums, percussions, violins, orchestra, guitars and etc.. as background foundation. But Andrea's voice just stands out in this album. There's not much his sisters voices. But it's okay since the songs are traditional. I really start to appreciate the heritage of their music. It's got its roots. This album might open up your ears and listen to more Irish music that's not heard by anyone.

The songs in this album were carefully selected so there's vocal part as well as some instrumental parts interchanging. To be honest, I still have no idea who originally wrote those beautiful tunes. All the songs are so romantic. If you're alone or with your loves one at home, I highly recommend you to play this CD and light a few candles in your living room. It's just the way I view how this music has to be played and listened.

All the instruments sounded just right. It blended particularly well since there's no pop editing involved in this album. It's all done with the Corrs instruments and an orchestra. I love the acoustic sounds. It's just a joy to listen to the fresh sounds like this. The other night I was listening to this album laying down on my bed. 'Brid Og Ni Mhaille' was suddenly playing on my computer. Guess what,..I really thought Andrea was singing in my room. If you don't believe, get this CD and feel it yourself. I was so so so hyped at that moment. I guess the main reason is because this song starts will her vocal only. Then second verse guitar comes into play. This song is recorded with Gaelic. I've not heard Irish language Gaelic in my life. Now I'm craving for more songs like this which means I'd listen to it again and again.

I love the following songs in partiular:
My Lagan Love - piano, vocal and the drums fused well. The vocal really stands out.

Spancill Hill - Who doesn't like acoustic guitars?! with bodhrán + violin outro twist. Oh wow. Splendid recording.

Black is the Colour - My favorite song in this album. I love the moody feel here. I love the lyrics.

Heart Like A Wheel - Love song with piano and Andrea's vocal. That's all you need for a song like this.

Brid Og Ni Mhaille - As long as you have this song playing. Andrea and Anto Drennen (Corrs guitarist) will be playing in front of you 24/7.

Old Town - studio version of their unplugged cover hit song.

There's also two instrumentals in this album. You can have breaks between all the love songs. You'll jump right out of your seat and start dancing along with the upbeat music.

If you enjoy the acoustic side of the Corrs. This would be what you'd enjoy. You can't really ask for more to have a CD features the traditional sounds of Ireland and the best family bands actually playing it. It's can't go wrong! I gave it five stars for all the aspects of this album, Quality of sound, album art (really nice), songs selections..

You might argue, hey those songs were not written by them. Right, I don't think people would've heard those masterpieces if the Corrs didn't make this album for the fans 'around the globe'. I'm a live example.

Hope you find this useful and always support CD quality music, get your own copy of this CD.

If you like modern iterpretations of traditional Irish music, the Corr's "Home" is a pleasurable listen, but nothing special. Check out Sinead O'Conner's Sean-Nos Nua, which is markedly superior.
