Bring on the 70's
Great stuff. Nothing like the sounds from the 70's as far as I'm concerned. The tunes brought me way back when.

1978 - A transition year for popular music!
How old was I in 1978 - just eleven! Trans Ams and The Fonz were the coolest, Grease was in the movie theatre and by that Summer, popular music had started to split away from disco domination. In the next year, some would go towards Van Halen and others would move towards Devo. Billboard has put together a diverse compilation of hits that will surely sit in your CD changer for weeks as you re-live 1978.

oldies but goodies you're not sick of the second time around...
Billboard Top Hits: 1978 has ten great pop hits from 1978 that bring back many good memories for me. These tunes are presented here in excellent sound; and newcomers to this genre of music should consider this as a great starter CD.
Queen starts it off big with "We Are The Champions." Freddy Mercury sings this perfectly and when the rest of Queen kicks in "We Are The Champions" is clearly a classic. This song is still sometimes played at sporting events even these days. "We Are The Champions" has great guitar work and Freddy Mercury sings this without a flaw--it's THAT good. Great!
"Hot Child In The City" definitely has that late `70s pop flavor to it; and they sing this very well. The drums, percussion and electric guitars work very well and they never miss a note. Listen also for Abba doing their smash hit entitled "Take A Chance On Me." "Take A Chance On Me" sounds somewhat more like pop mixed with a disco twist but make no mistake--it sounds great and "Take A Chance On Me" is definitely one of Abba's greatest songs ever.
Player does their very famous "Baby Come Back" which features great harmonizing and electric guitar; and Eric Clapton scores big with his "Lay Down Sally." "Lay Down Sally" has a great beat and the guitar couldn't be better. Eric's voice is in excellent form and he sings this with passion, heart and soul--awesome!
Yvonne Elliman's pop hit "If I Can't Have You" does indeed have a distinct disco feel to it. "If I Can't Have You" is a highlight of this album. Listen also for Exile on "Kiss You All Over." "Kiss You All Over" celebrates the joys and happiness that comes with love and it's a strong number on this album.
Overall, this CD has some pretty fine tunes from 1978. I highly recommend this CD.

Rockin' Hits
Needed some oldies for my MGB convertible when at the "cruise ins". Fit the bill. Thanks

Just a glance at the song titles transports me back to that year!
How can Mr. Bernabo not remember four of the songs on this compilation? If you had the radio on much during this era, you heard them all! I must admit that I didn't quite care for "Hot Child in the City", and "Lay Down Sally" got burnt out from too much airplay back then, but all the rest are treasures! "Baby Come Back" and "I Go Crazy" stll give me a pang in my heart just like they did back in those jr.high days when a lot of time was spent at the roller rink! "We Are the Champions" deserved to be the opener as this was probably the biggest classic from this time. I'm glad to see "Reminiscing" on here too. Definitely a song "reminiscent" of this year. I'm sure some good ones were left off this collection but I can't really think of what they'd be without seeing a list of hits from this year. One song that comes to mind is "On and On" by Stephen Bishop. Anyone remember that song? That was a much-played song when I was in 8th grade. I guess it may have been released in 1977 but was still being played in 1978. Anyway, I think this collection is a good representation of what was on the radio that year and if they bring back happy memories for you, you'll think it well worth the (...).
