The best cut on the "Confessions" album...
When MTV let listeners preview Madonna's "Confessions on a Dance Floor" album a couple of weeks before it's original release date, I eagerly sat at my computer anticipating what was going to pop up next after "Hung Up" began to fade out..the ticking of the clocks, the ringing of the bells and then the first sweeping notes of the intro synths kicked in - I IMMEDIATELY had chills sent down my spine. Vogue used to be my all-time favorite Madonna track followed by Bedtime Story, Vogue has now taken second place. "Get Together" is now my all time favorite Madonna track. It's is a swirling, sugary, glossy piece of dance-pop perfection. The rythms, beats, syths and vocals all just simply swirl around each other in a conglomeration of electro-pop ecstasy. I listen to this track at least once a day and I have had the Confessions album and this maxi-single since the day they were officially released over two years ago. Since The Confessions album was released around the holidays, listening to it always reminds me of this time of year, when the days are shorter and the nights are longer. I got to see two of Madonna's Confession Tour shows in Chicago, one night first row. Hearing and seeing "Get Together" performed live and up close was a dream come true. The live version is as good as the lp version and I STRONGLY reccomend the CONFESSIONS TOUR as well as ANY of Madonna's releases from the confessions catalog. Confessions was THE Madonna album I have waited for during my entire career as a die hard Madonna fan and thats been 25 years now! I have every release from this album, cd singles, 12 inch singles, limited edition vinyls, tour merchandise..you name it, I have it. Now given this was my favorite track on the album, I must say, yeah, the remixes are weak to moderate at best.
I rate them as this:
Lp/Album Version - The version that almost brougt me to tears! The One!
Jacques Lu Cont Mix - Not bad, but kinda bland to me - (this version could be heard playing over the loud system before her Confessions Tour Shows began, at least in Chicago.)
Danny Howells & Dick Trevor Kinky Funk Mix - Out of all of the OFFICIAL remixes, this is the one I like the most - Most club friendly mix - very Euro-Electropop sounding, nice bass line. This is the longest of the mixes too.
Tiefschwarz Remix - From what I understand, this one was all the rage in the euro clubs. It's not bad, but this has more of an electronica/chill factor to it in my opinion, it did make it's way onto my "Veronica Electronica" compilation I made for myself.
James Holden Mix - (In the words of Andy from Little Britain) - I DON'T LIKE IT! However, while this mix does nothing for me as it is just nothing really but a series of bleeps and burps, no vocals even really, it's still a form of artistic expression on the remixer/producers behalf and well, it's at least interesting in that aspect - How many people can say that their remix of a Madonna single made the cut? NOT MANY!
I Love New York (Thin White Duke Mix) - I actually like this version better than the album version as this mix focuses more on the instrumentation and less on vocals. I heard this played in an after hours club one night and it THUMPED!
That's the thing about club music and remixes, to TRULY Appreciate them, you have hear them in a club up loud, the way they were meant to be heard.
"Get Together" will probably always be my favorite Madonna track as it contains all of the elements in club music that I adore - Heavy beats, pristine treble response, glistening synths and the perfect vocals. I HIGHLY reccomend this single for anyone who is a fan of Stardust, Daft Punk, Kylie Minogue, or the track "Sunshine" by Dance Nation. If your ar looking for more circuit styled versions of "Get Together" I suggest trying to get your hands on the Peter Rauhofer version, or the versions done by Tony Moran, or Three Werq'n Bitches. They are out there, just have to look :)
