I am artist in my own volume. Along with my growing collection of funk, old and neo soul, classic r&b, pop, alternative, rock, opera etc, Voodoo is ranked at the top. This album and it's main artist + the many others on this album were not packed and bagged with a studio image plus digitized music. THIS IS REAL Music! Cut live from a legendary stuio. This album has opened the doors for me in other music categories. I just recently got into Portishead and Radiohead, yes. Because of the roots this volume of music holds. Just like rolling from James Brown to Bethoveen. It's Everlasting! Voodoo holds such depths that rolls off of your tounge. Like diggning Chaka Khan with Rufus. Peace of mind, connection, spirituality and sensuality comes into focus with D's low pitches and spine tingling falsetto. Like MJ "She's out of my life" and Marvin Gaye "Sexual healing" all in one. It makes you rewind and replay, blast it loud in your car on the way to work. You feel like every song is a soundtrack to a peice of your life. I mean you can connect, really and truly connect. Like the opening theme to Shaft or the Pusher Man song from Mayfield. It just jumps out at you like wow! I can picture "Greatdayinthemoning" and cry to "Send it on" and make love to "How Does it Feel". That's the volume I am talking about. The volume "Thriller" cre8ted in the 80's and opened up, Voodoo is raw energy that has no title or category. D'Angelo is apart of a growing sound rekindling the fire and desire, the passion and art of those before them: Common, The Roots, Erykah Badu, Angie Stone, Jill Scott, Q-Tip, and Maxwell are some of those who have the sound and are conveing it with pure soul, not hype intended. Only respect can come from a listen to this classic album. It doesn't matter if he wins any Grammy's, AMA or MTV awards. What counts is the music. Curtis Mayfield, Earth Wind and Fire, SLY Family Stone and James Brown haven't gotten the recognition they deserve. Through D'Angelo and the Soultronics, I believe they are all being rekindled. From an artist who has been inspired again by music. For anyone who listens without a prejudice ear and can be moved by vibes in the dark and a voice with "soul and heart", Voodoo is the ultimate album for you. Support this blessed, humble and thankful talent, who will be around, God Willing, for a long time to come! Peace, Cre8te Check out Brown Sugar and Live at the Jazz Cafe +1
