Avg Customer Rating:
Product Description: Hailing from Pyle's Chopper series, the PLA-2200 two-channel car amplifier is designed from the ground up to deliver the power, performance, and flexibility demanded by the modern car enthusiast. The amp is outfitted with two channels that pump 80 watts of RMS power each into 4 ohm speakers or 140 watts each into 2 ohm speakers, with a max power delivery of 700 watts per channel. As an alternative, listeners can bridge the channels into a single 1,400-watt max output--ideal for driving a heavy-duty subwoofer. Also along for the ride are built-in high- and low-pass electronic crossovers (40 to 250 Hz) for precise filtering and a variable input level (gain) control that lets you match the outputs of your head unit with the amplifier. Add in a remote bass boost that increases the bass level by as much as 18 dB and you have a powerful, versatile device that strives to accommodate all types of equipment. Internally, the PLA-2200's thermally stable Mosfet transistors are built to withstand prolonged exposure to high temperatures. However, should the amp reach an excessive operating temperature, the unit's thermal protection circuit is designed to kick in, thus shutting down the amp until the conditions cool off. This protective feature dovetails with the amp's other protection circuits, which include both overload and short circuit protection. Other features include gold-plated RCA inputs and outputs for high-impedance speakers, a slim design that's installs easily in most vehicles, power and protection LED indicators, anti-thump and soft turn-on circuits, and a remote turn-off function that coordinates with the head unit to save current consumption. The PLA-2200 measures 10.63 by 1.42 by 8.75 inches (W x H x D) and carries a two-year warranty on parts and labor. What's in the Box PLA-2200 amplifier, mounting hardware, user's manual.

Customer Reviews
Works Great for my uses
I got this amp to hook up to complete my system, and it works great. I don't usually bump it so loud that my ears pop, but it'll do it. I haven't had overheating problems, but like I said, I don't have it really loud for a substantial amount of time. Bottom line, I'm very pleased. Great price for the product!

Awesome Budget Amp!
When my trusty Pioneer amp died on me after nearly 10 years, I was pretty torn. I didn't need bass that hit hard enough to bounce things off of my car, but I also didn't want to go back to stock.
Luckily, I found this on Amazon before wasting my money on some flea market junk.
The amp itself is pretty basic. You have typical crossover options and gain -- nothing special there. I noticed this uses two 10A fuses instead of one 20A fuse. (Then again, the amp I'm replacing is really old, so maybe this isn't as uncommon as I thought)
So, altogether pretty ho-hum, until I got it hooked up. I'm driving two Polk db12's in a bandpass box, and they sound like new speakers with this amp. The range seems to be great, if a little "hollow" compared to the Pioneer. But that aside, it's LOUD and I haven't encountered any overheating problems.
Obviously, this isn't something you'll want to use as a foundation for a competition-grade system, but it's more than enough for a casual enthusiast. (And total overkill for people who don't have to good sense to use foam or Dynamat under their license plates... you know who you are...)
