Customer Reviews
Passable quality, forget about product support
As a printer and fax machine, this machine performs its functions. But the extraordinary amount of software (be sure to use the custom function when installing, and use the most minimum number of software products)and the truly abysmal customer service make this a product to avoid. (I had one customer service rep tell me the machine that I received the day before was out of warranty, and then hang up on me.)

Recurring "paper jam" without paper!
I bought this to replace another HP all in one product that served me well. First printer showed up with ink cartridges in place - I should have been suspicious. During setup, before any paper was inserted, I kept getting a "paper jam" error instructing me to remove the rear duplexer. After dozens of tries and a call to HP, it was determined that the printer indeed had a "hardware problem". Printer was swapped out the next day. I have now spent another hour trying to set up the darn(!) thing & I am receiving the same error. Really, can it be me? Now I see that other reviewers had the same exact problem. Even if I can resolve it, it's going back. I don't need a high-maintenance office product that is going to fail when I need it most. So disappointing!

Great Printer!
Before I bought this printer, I saw a good mix of reviews, but to be honest, I really didn't pay much attention to them as people only review products when they are disgruntled, not when they are pleased with a product. So, I decided to buy it and have not regretted my decision yet.
Overall, this is a great printer. I've had it for about a month now and have not had any issues. Networking is a snap (if you have even half a brain) and installs on both my vista (x64) and XP machines with no issue. In fact, you don't even need the install CD to enable networking, windows will do it for you, so I really can't understand why people are having such an issue with it...
Faxing works like it should, I can send and receive just fine, and the junk blocker feature is a plus.
Scanning and copying are easy, software is not hard to figure out. But the thing I like about HP all-in-ones is that the scanner will show up separately from the printer, so you don't have to use the software if you don't want to (I prefer Photoshop). Maybe I have a different generation of this printer, but as far as the 5 page limit goes, i haven't seen it yet, but we'll see...
Ink can be a bit on the pricey side (I buy all vivera XL), but what isn't these days!
Bottom line, if you're looking for a good home/office printer, this is a good choice.

"HP" is an abbreviation for "Hemorrhoid Printing"
Too many others did a better job listing ALL THE FLAWS of this piece of junk, let me contribute my part:
Inconsistent quality, our company installs these in our field offices and everyone one has a unique set of frustrating idiosyncrasies.
This thing is really ready for business use, it isn't really ready for amateur use either.
ALWAYS fails when you need it the most ! When one of our reps is prepping for their overnight presentation and has to print copies before leaving for the airport..... it always jams, or has ink errors despite the fact the cartridges are new and less than a day old.
NEVER, NEVER, GET A PAPER JAM, because even if you clear it, the HP still reports a Jam error, we had to ship one back for this reason and often have to flush all the factory settings to clear the jam !
Keep a flashlight near it, because the card slots are impossible to discern and it is easy to break an SD card being plugged into an XD Micro slot.
We fixed that insidious "Clear Paper Jam" error from the rear duplex loader / read for solution.
This device consistently stretches the text on every duplexed scanned side.
In other words, if you set the scanner to scan both sides of the page, the underside / 2nd part always stretches the text at the top of the 2nd page.
(SEE SUBMITTED PHOTO)
Sometimes, it has just been a single sentence, other times an entire paragraph.
Contacting HP TechSupport is as painful as it is useless. Search their tech support and find out everything else about this thing except what you need to fix.
Searched Google to no avail either.
BUT - the scanning performance speed is superb for an MFD in this price range,,,, too bad it just skews the tops of the even numbered pages.

Required Tools:
(2) Medium sized paper clips
Preferable Tools:
(1) Pair of pliers with rubber grips
(1) Edged tool such as wall paper knife, metal pick or toothpick to clean out gear teeth.
This fix applies to paper jams the device believes are in the rear duplexer and often occurs after a real jam that has shredded the paper inside the mechanism.
Despite the fact you've carefully cleaned out all the visible paper from inside with the cover open, paper can jam the gears used to drive the rear rollers and even the tiniest amount of shred prevents operation resulting in the impossible Paper Jam error.
HP Tech Support online and on the phone don't troubleshoot it past "clear the paper from the device than try again please" b.s.
After removing the duplexer, grip any of the four rubber rollers and attempt to rotate in either direction, if they don't move freely with little effort, then continue with these instructions.
Begin:
1. Take the first paper clip and contact the lower two brass rectangles, this fools the device into believing the duplexer is installed, keep the contacts bridged (don't remove your hand or the paper clip until Step 4.) THERE IS NO ELECTROCUTION RISK.
2. Press the "OK" button on the control panel to pretend the paper jam is cleared.
3. CAREFULLY OBSERVE THE pair of white gears on the left, if they seem to clutch, stall, skip or freeze then you have paper shards which are causing the jam.
4. Using a firmer grip or pliers, grip the furthest left rubber roller and rotate in either direction , the gears should rotate with your efforts and look for shards of paper in the gear teeth.
5. Use the paper clip, toothpick or any appropriate edged tool to clear the shards.
Bridge the lower contacts again and observe if the gears rotate freely, if so then you've cleared the insidious jam should be able to print until the next error from this piece of chit printer.

HP outsources service and satisfaction-Never again!
I have owned several HP products over the years and have had mixed feelings about the company and their products but kept on buying out of habit and the fact the company at one time was a leader in the arenas in which they chose to participate. My biggest complaint was high priced ink cartridges before but this was about to change--for the worse.
I decide to get rid of some of the clutter on my home office desk and get rid of a HP Photoshop 7000 series printer, a Brother fax machine and a HP 5200 series scanner. My nightmare would begin very soon. The shipment from Amazon arrived in just a few days from Atlanta and was in good condition. I assembled the machine exactly as they instructions showed but after the installation on my computer the machine failed to work. The problem was simple and I was simple minded but unaware of the issues to come. I called HP and spent 35min. and 53 sec. on the phone with a pleasant but clueless person in what I guessed to be India. Nice but had no knowledge of English or how to listen and solve a problem. Bad combo for a customer service rep for the US company and their US buyers. He finally said he would get me a higher level service person who kept trying to get me to buy a service plan. This was deja vu, as the same thing had happened a year and a half ago when I called and tried to get help for the dial up modem for my laptop at a Sacremento hotel with no wireless internet-wasted an hour and a half that time but my cell phone battery died and saved me from the idiots at HP overseas.
I sent emails to HP service and to their executive offices through their company web site. A day later I received an answer that solved the problem. The sender didn't know that they solved the problem but in the next to the last paragraph was info that led me to overide tha lack of a back door on the machine and viola, it worked until the part came several days later.
I got a phone message from the HP execs too--unfortunately the oriental voice butchered the number so badly that I couldn't figure it out to return the call.
All is well that ends well. Well this isn't over. HP has a problem that they don't reveal or announce in the packaging or on the web site. Evidently Microsoft has issues with this 7600 series machine and installing it so the scanner will work. Short story of a long fix--I had to go into the computer directory and make changes to the system and then reload the software. Great, as it would now scan and print.
Not so fast my friend. It may scan but it can't save it to the computer. Scan as many pages as you want but only the first page will save to the computer. Frustrating as heck.
After a week of trying I notice you can scan to a memory device. I do it and it works. Great--problem solved. Just scan to a USB thumb drive and then put it into a port on the computer and save to a file. It works but is cumbersome and time consuming.
Oh well, now everything is sort of perfect. NO, not really. Remember, this is a nightmare. The feeder has more traction on one side than the other even if the rollers are cleaned with denatured alcohol. Results? crooked scans and copies.
The End. HP sux! I will never buy one of their products again or allow anyone in my companies to purchase a HP product of any type. They finally broke me of a bad habit--buying their products.
The END!
