First personal printer in 8 years
This is the first printer I have used for personal reasons in 8 years. I've used ones at the library for printing and ones at work for scanning, copying, faxing, and printing.
I've only used it for a few things for getting set up for school having just completed my military tour, such as printing forms and copying military documents.
Printing seems slow, though I'm sure I can speed things up with a few setting changes.
Copying works just as slow and the ink is still a little damp coming out, such as areas where the form is shaded.
Scanning, an important feature that I really want to get working, doesn't work for me for some reason. It says, connect to PC and on the list it shows USB. I just used it for printing, but when I try to scan and it shows it's processing, nothing comes up on my computer. I rescan as a pdf and search for all pdfs on my computer and still cannot find the file. I checked the canon site and searched their FAQ and did a google on this and it seems no one has had my problem before, at that hasn't documented it on the web.

outstanding home-office printer
Good print quality. Good ink life. Powers up and down quickly. Good scan speed and quality. Decent software. Took seconds to set printer up on my wireless network to print from all of my computers (Mac and PC). Have been using it heavily for 3 months now - such an outstanding improvement over the HP it replaced, there's not even a comparison. One of the best technology purchases I've made in ages.

So far so good
I haven't really had much time to run this printer through its paces, but I can tell you that the print quality is superb, and that it makes nearly no noise at all. It has two paper trays one in back, and one inside, to give you many options for paper handling. They have made setting up this printer so easy, that I firmly believe anyone can do it. Overall it seems to be a terrific product.

Ugly But Functions Beautifully
This is my second Canon printer, replacing my Canon S900 printer. The photo printing quality is superb, faster than my prior printer and far quieter. Having two paper inputs makes switching between photo paper and printing paper easy, but you need to remember to select which source you need, because there is no automatic selection. Printer utility function works well. Inserting the print head was a bit awkward, but you can check alignment manually and automatically. Scanner works very nicely. The footprint is pretty large. Interface is easy to use, and printing from memory cards and camera is a dream. I'm hoping that the Pixma MP970 is not the ink hog my earlier Canon printer was, but it's too early to tell that yet. Seven ink tanks will make ink expensive, but the photo quality makes is worth it. Ordered mine through Crutchfield, and they delivered it in two days without shipping costs. One complaint: Needs optional Bluetooth adapter (bummer), and Canon store is out of stock.
