Product Description: Equally suited to entertainment and utility, the Timex T617S is perfect for any bedroom or kitchen, offering accurate auto-set timekeeping, CD and radio playback, stereo speakers, onboard nature sounds, and an external audio input. The unit's stately silver finish and translucent CD door add visual touches of class, and its versatile CD playback modes include repeat and random play. Once plugged in, the clock will set itself, drawing on its factory-installed 100-year calendar (year/month/day, 2000 to 2099). The clock will even self-adjust for Daylight Savings time and leap years.

It features a programmable sleep mode with independent sleep volume, too (select 15, 30, 60, or 90 minutes), so you can drift to sleep or wake to your choice of a favorite radio station, a favorite CD track, or any of the unit's 4 nature sounds: ocean surf, rushing brook, forest spring, and wind chimes. The T617S's 2 alarms each function independently, so both can be set for either the same or different wake signals.

For radio listening, you'll enjoy drift-free digital PLL (phase-locked-loop) tuning with 12 preset stations for 1-touch tuning convenience for your favorites (6 FM, 6 AM). Use the clock's handy Smart Knob to quickly and easily adjust all settings and major functions.

Ideal for a portable MP3 player or cassette player, the T617S's auxiliary audio input broadens your listening options to include any source you deem appropriate. Hookup with portable audio devices is a snap using the supplied stereo minijack-to-minijack audio cable.

And, just to make sure you never miss an important appointment (if only some quality time with your shower or morning coffee), the clock also comes with Timex's Sure Alarm battery backup. Just install 3 AAA batteries (not included) to activate this feature. In the event of a power failure--or if you disconnect the AC power cord to move the clock--Sure Alarm will maintain your clock and alarm settings for the life of the batteries, ensuring that the alarms will sound at the appointed time (while operating on battery power, the alarms will sound only as buzzer).

What's in the Box
Clock, FM wire antenna, a stereo analog audio interconnect (minijack to minijack), and a user's manual with warranty information.

Customer Reviews

1 stars Great product, too bad it doesn't work
This clock had many features I wanted--a CD player, headphone jack, nature sounds, dual alarms. When I saw how many people had problems with it, I paused, hoping I would get lucky. I didn't. Within a week, the CD was malfunctioning. Once it wouldn't turn on at all. On other occasions, it would start making a strange noise and turn itself off soon afterwards.

If you don't need the CD player, this clock may work for you. A couple of warnings other reviewers haven't mentioned: if you have headphones plugged in, the alarm WILL NOT sound over the speakers. So if you take off the headphones during the night and don't unplug them, you won't hear the alarm. Second, the CD repeat function only repeats once. I use a sleep CD, so this requires that I turn on the CD player and reset the "Sleep" function each time I wake up during the night--not helpful. Also, it's a little complicated to set the alarms. Finally, even at its dimmest setting, the display is bright in a dark room. The light that comes on when the CD/radio/nature sounds is even brighter--bright enough to read by!

For the quality, this clock should be half the price or less. Better yet, it should simply WORK. CD players have been around a long time. There's no reason a manufacturer should have such a hard time producing a product that performs as it ought to. I'm returning mine.

2 stars static distrotion issues
I really want to like this product. There are many cool features. But, for those of us still in the world of CD's, there seems to be an issue with the laser. The speakers distort until half way through the cd's, then clear up. Very odd. This is my second unit. Same problem. I don't think it's the speakers. It has something to do with the laser not quite reading the early parts of cd's. Lame!

1 stars Disappointed
I bought one of these several months ago and immediately noticed that the nap timer does not work properly. Every time I press the button it toggles the alarm settings. The two functions are unrelated. Unfortunately, I didn't try to play a CD either until recently when I found out that does not work either. So this thing is on it's way out. Right now I'm looking at the Emerson iTone iC200BK. Feature-wise it's the most complete I've seen but the reviews are not very good. I wonder when these manufacturers are going to produce a full-featured alarm clock that is actually worth the money.

1 stars CD player crashed
There are many features I like about this alarm clock. That being said, I have had this alarm clock for less than a year and the CD player has stopped working. Actually, this is my second one, as the first one I received arrived with the CD player already broken. Sucks. Didn't play MP3 CDs anyway.

4 stars Nice little item
I have been looking for a cd/am/fm clock radio for several months. I had purchased three, but two wouldn't play the CD and the other had a battery backup that only lasted a few minutes. Then I spotted the Timex T617S and ordered it through Amazon. And I'm happy I did. It's not a bad little clock radio. The display isn't too bright and I can read it from several feet away at night; the CD plays well and I can even use random play; and the battery backup is great - it wakes you with a buzzer even if there isn't any power. The sound is only so-so but it's a clock radio. The radio also includes nature sounds, but I don't really use them. All in all, it's a nice buy for the money.
