Product Description: Early word on the sixth album from Weezer--and their third self-titled record, although fans, sensibly, are referring to it as "The Red Album"--is that this is their experimental record. Luckily, Rivers Cuomo isn't interested in penning his own jazz odyssey; for him, experimental is just finding cunning ways to nuance Weezer's stock-in-trade--crunchy, candy-sweet guitars and vocal harmonies--with new pop tricks. The sardonic lyric of "Pork and Beans" hints at a new direction: "Timabaland knows the way to reach the top of the charts," Cuomo sings, "maybe if I work with him I can perfect the art". Actually, Timbaland's not on board, but producer Jacknife Lee brings a variety of drum machines and electronics, and Weezer rise to the challenge with some generally inspired messing around. "The Greatest Man That Ever Lived (Variations on a Shaker Theme)" sees Cuomo adopt a gangsta rap slur over screaming sirens, while elsewhere, the other three Weezer members take a turn at the microphone. But it's Cuomo's songs that are the winners--notably "Heart Songs", a tribute to the songs that "never feel wrong" that swoops from melodic schmaltz to grunge scuzz with a deft invocation of Nirvana. Skip to the bonus tracks, meanwhile, for a great cover of "The Weight" that takes The Band's original and drenches it in chundering guitars. --Louis Pattison

Red Album
Still keeping in touch with their roots, but tweaking their successful formula ever so slightly to create a new sound that is still recognizably Weezer. Great album. Listened to it non stop the first couple weeks I had it.

Weezer Re-Defined Again
The songs not sung by Cuomo on the second half the album are my favorite parts of this album. "Thought I Knew" and "Automatic" have more heart and are more genuine than the crafty stuff Cuomo put on the rest of the record; which isn't a slight on Cuomo's songs which are very fun in their different way.
The album took a long time to grow on me; at first, there was definitely a disconnect between the Weezer I knew and expected and the one presented on this album. I'm at a point now where I can respect the tracks as four guys making pop music as they want to; and it finally makes sense. The best rated review on here says that the non-Rivers songs are not good, and I strongly disagree- give the non-Rivers sung songs a chance!

WTF Happened?
After the album Maledroit(which was the last true weezer album) Weezer has continuesly made horrible commercially aimed albums. But i'm not goona judge the album on how the songs were used. I will say tho with this album they return to there roots for maybe 1 song (pork and beans) and the rest of the album is pretty much crap. I strongly reccomend skipping this album (especially if you hate make believe)What's so wrong with this album is it's pretty much there most effortless album. The guitar parts all are pretty basic. With albums such as blue and pinkerton(which weren't overally complex but not as lame as this) we would expect something a little better. When the band works on an album for a year and a half we shouldn't get this crap. It seems that weezer should just break up before they lose all the fame they have with there first 4 records. Save you 15 bucks and go buy something good. Seriously. don't buy this cd. it is the worst weezer album yet. (also i advise you to stay away from make believe) To enjoy this album you probally would have to make belive it's good. Convence yourself that it's the next "Dark side of the moon" Seriously avoid this album at all costs. It's just another mainstream album (to end up on the $5 bin in three years). Just please Rivers stop making album you really suck!

Weezer from Blue to Red
Weezer's RED ALBUM DELUXE, the 6 studio lp has received mainly two types of responses from fans and critics: 1. "It doesn't sound like the Blue Album or Pinkerton, Weezer has lost their touch and should have moved on long ago" or "That it is a solid album from the 16 pop-punk-nerd-rock, (whatever you want to call them) 16 year-old band."
Quick history. A band that came out of no where in 1994-1995 gets signed to a major record deal and blew people away with the Blue Album. Two years later, released their sophomore album Pinkerton which is on list after list of one of the best albums ever. How difficult it must be to be able to match the levels of those first two albums? Think about this. Do you really want Weezer to continue to put out the same music as they did in the mid 1990's? Or do you want them to experiment and grow musically and professionally?
Weezer's "Red Album" is their most experimental album to date. I give the guys props for taking a chance in this "only radio friendly" world we live in now.
For the first time, lead man Rivers Cuomo gives the green light for other members of the band to write and lead songs. "Thought I Knew" - Brian Bell, "Cold Dark World" and "King" - Scott Shriner, "Automatic" - Pat Wilson. These 4 tracks vary considerably from the Weezer we have been accustomed to. At first listen to these tracks, they seem out of place and disrupt the flow of the album. But after further listening more, man what a jewel these tracks are to the album.
Do yourself a favor and pick up the Deluxe version of this album. It has four bonus tracks. 3 tracks lead by Cuomo and the last "King" by Shriner.
Album Track Highlights:
1. Troublemaker - The 2008 version of My Name is Jonas
2. The Greatest Man that Ever Lived - The most experimental and creative Weezer has gone to date
3. Pork and Beans - A "Screw You" to the music industry
4. Automatic - Wilson Leads
10. The Angel and the One - Simply Beautiful
11. Miss Sweeney - A bit of rapping
12. Pig - Joyful and Depressing
Weezer: Keep it coming. Can't wait for the Red Album tour to begin.
