Product Description: Get the power of a full-sized laptop in the ultra-compact ASUS Eee PC 4G, which offers a full QWERTY keyboard, 7-inch screen, and preinstalled Linux operating system. (This laptop is also compatible with the Microsoft Windows XP operating system.) You'll be able to stay connected to email and the Internet easily thanks to the Wi-Fi LAN (802.11b/g), and communicate via video chat and VoIP with the Webcam integrated into the display's bezel. Because it uses flash memory instead of a hard drive (with 4 GB of storage), the Eee PC is optimal for weathering rough handling and sharing space in overstuffed bags.

With a rapid start-up time, the Eee PC is always ready to get into action.

For the professional, the Eee PC comes with a powerful selection of software to maximize personal productivity--over 40 built-in applications. The Open Office suite of software enables the user to open, edit and create documents, presentations, spreadsheets and databases that are compatible with Microsoft Office. For journalists, photographers and other professionals who need to use a computer in the field to create, to communicate and to collaborate with other colleagues, the Eee PC's combinati on of power, extreme portability and rugged build makes it the ideal computing solution.

It's also a great choice for young students, with a built-in Dictionary that's great for homework, and it includes two modes of intuitive graphic user interface design to accommodate both experienced and inexperienced PC users. The Eee PC also handles your digital images, movies, and music as well as Internet radio.

No technical manual required with the specially designed, user-friendly, and intuitive graphic interface.
Compact and highly portable at just 32 ounces, the Eee PC 4G has a 7-inch wide color TFT LCD with an 800 x 480-pixel resolution (WXGA). Under the hood is a 900 MHz Intel Mobile CPU with integrated Intel graphics processor, 512 MB of RAM (not expandable), and 4 GB of solid-state flash memory. With the dependable solid-state disk, you get unparalleled shock-protection and reliability. In addition to its wireless LAN, it also offers wired Fast Ethernet connectivity and a 56K modem. The Eee PC includes software for Web browsing (Firefox), email, OpenOffice 2.0 for creating and editing word processing documents and spreadsheets, and a suite of other productivity software to help keep you on track.

You get three USB 2.0 ports, a VGA output for connecting to external monitors, headphone and microphone jacks, and a Secure Digital (SD) memory card slot. The Eee PC measures 8.9 x 6.5 x 1.4 inches, and it weighs 32 ounces. The 4-cell, 5200 mAh battery provides up to 3.5 hours of battery life (depending on usage). It's backed by a 1 year warranty for parts and labor.

Customer Reviews

4 stars Very handy
Great as a portable UMPC. If you are getting this one, you may check the 9" first. I purchased the 7", then sold it out and got two of the EEE 900.

1 stars great idea but too much money and too many flaws
fantastic size and they really tried but no dvd and too easy to destroy entire computer when you download their updates. The screen is not too clear but overall, the price is the real problem. At $500+ better to buy a regular laptop. However, it is better than a PDA.

5 stars Asus Eee 4g computer
I rate this highly simply because it fullfilled my original requirement for a very compact, lightweight, wi-fi computer. Specifically for travelling with a vacation trailer. It also has a very sturdy case. I have no needs of a business or corporate commuter, so the installed programs and memory are fine. I use can use thumb drives and now digital cameras have 4 gig memory cards. I love the way it searches for existing wi-fi signals and it saves the ones you have used. I did hook it up to my desktop moniter at home for trial purposes, and worked just fine. It seems to process quickly; I did not install Windows XP. Lack of an internal drive is a trade off but Targus Brand has some USB port powered models.Asus Eee PC 4G Surf (7" Screen, 800 MHz Intel Celeron Processor, 512 MB RAM, 4 GB Hard Drive, Linux Preloaded) Pure White

5 stars Hate the Linux, Love the Linuxer
I've never been a fan of Linux because it is so difficult to install new programs. You don't have the ease of the way it's done in OSX or Windows. I'm a Mac person, and I have a Macbook Pro and a Powerbook G4 (12" cutie). I got the EEE to stash in my office case to use in a pinch, when I wanted to connect "anywhere". I've only had it a few days but I can tell you two very important facts. One, the Linux version installed on it is super and gives you a program for just about anything you would need. After all, this is not intended to replace your main computer. Two, I typed up a document in Open Office and I went to print it and amazingly the EEE had already detected and immediately printed to my home network printer, a Canon IP5200R. With my Macs (and my brother's HP) we had to hook up the printer with a cable to set it up first. The EEE simply knew it was there. I was aghast with delightful amazement.

If you bought the EEE for what it was intended- as a second or third laptop that can, if you desire, be just as useful as your main one, then you'll be happy. If you bought it and expect it to be a main computer from the get go you'll probably be disappointed.

5 stars E3Cheers!
Curiosity got the best of me, and so did my stimulus check. It just works...
