Product Description: Everything about Tool's fourth album is an experience, starting with the packaging, which consists of liner credits printed on a translucent plastic sleeve over the CD and a booklet that layers anatomical representations atop one another--the first page pictures musculature and blood vessels; the next, bones; the third, internal organs; and so on. It's worth describing the packaging of Lateralus because it says much about the astonishing music within. Maynard James Keenan and company understand the expectations riding on this much-anticipated release and they've delivered the goods! While it remains in the Tool tradition of trance-inducing progressive metal, Lateralus is tighter, clearer, crisper, and all around a notch above their admirable previous releases. Aenima was marred by muddy production and a certain predictability. Undertow had a cleaner sound but wasn't as confident or adventurous. With Lateralus, Tool have raised an already lofty bar still higher by coming up with a collection that kicks major ass. --Genevieve Williams

5 stars mind blowing
The first tool cd that i bought was lateralus. my sons have listened since they were 16 or so. now I am hooked on tool myself, and have gone to 2 concerts with them. the first few times you listen seems ok then the more tool you hear you understand how really great they are they are pure music rock n roll one of my top band besides bowie and zepplin and many others from the past. they are awsome

3 stars It's extremely okay!
Tool! Arguably the most fiercely lauded band of the last twenty years! My God, the TALENT!

The singer sings!
The guitarist plays the guitar!
The drummer plays the drums!
The bass player plays the bass guitar!

Wow! If that's the kind of thing you like you'll love this CD!

1 stars Over 1200 5 star reviews? Really?
I don't get it... over 1200 5 Star reviews? I just don't get it! Would you say their review's were not that of the album itself or, more that of dedicated fan ferver? The only thing that really impressed me on this album was the packaging. Maybe that's what the over 1200 5 Stars were for . . . No?!

4 stars Great music, brilliant musicians
Tool's third album may be their best; certainly it is great. Very happy with it and it stands up to repeated listening.

5 stars ¡¡¡WOW!!!
Over the previous 12 years, I had already bought each of this band's other albums. This one is my favorite! It marks a dramatic point of transformation during the band's development ... call it perhaps a higher dimension of consciousness. The artist Alex Grey was a positive influence on the members, who themselves were already very intelligent, sensitive, powerful.

Prior to my first listen through it, I was having some trouble in life. The music served as a catalyst into the mental healing process, and it worked more powerfully than almost any experience I'd ever had.
